Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The forest clan is back! Accompanied by violins, flute, and accordion, Korpiklaani go at it again on Tales Along This Road. The perfect successor to the critically acclaimed Voice Of Wilderness, this third album quickly becomes the life of the party with its undeniable hooks, traditional metal heaviness and of course, plenty of Finnish folk. New anthems for any celebration! The special Ltd. Ed. version comes housed in deluxe digipak format with a bonus track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wrath of the Gods, February 18, 2007
This review is from: Tales Along This Road (Audio CD)
Korpiklaani brings to you a more 'spiritual' side of the Pagan Metal scene. They've been around since before this craze for all things 'Viking Metal', and have a very distinct sound, feel, and persona. There isn't one bad track on this album, so you won't need your 'next song' button at all. The songs are even well ordered, opening strong and finishing even stronger. Korpiklaani deserves much more attention than what they have now, and your music collection is not complete without this great album. Well worth $17.

5.0 out of 5 stars look into my eyes and tremble, September 28, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is my first Korpiklaani cd and I really like it because it's full of great energy. It makes you want to get up and dance and just have a good time. The best way to describe this cd is that it sounds like a softer version of Finntroll with more folk music thrown in. Now that's not a bad thing because they still have that great energy that Finntroll has.

Half the lyrics are in Finnish and the other half are in English. At first I thought that the English lyrics would ruin the songs because they're playing Finnish folk music so only Finnish lyrics would work but I was wrong the english lyrics aren't out of place. The songs that are in finnish have the english translations in the jacket.
Sometimes the songs seem to get repetitive but that doesn't bother me because it's just such a fun cd to listen to. There are 2 instrumentals including the extra track.

I would recommend this cd to anyone who likes Finnish folk metal like Finntroll. However if you thought that Finntroll was too heavy for you then I would also recommend this cd to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy the enhanced version, July 8, 2006
First off, with the departure/addition of various members, Korpiklaani have a totally different sound than what was present of the first two albums. This new sound is way more along the lines of Finntroll, a lot heavier with more black metal influences. It still has the trademark Korpiklaani sound, so don't worry, but I don't like this album near as much as Voice Of Wilderness. With that said, spend the extra couple of bucks and get the enhanced version, because Free Like An Eagle is one of the best songs the Forest Clan have ever done. There are a lot more songs sung in Finnish on this album, but the English translations are in the lyrics. The first big change you will notice is the addition of a full time Accordian player. This is not always a good thing. I love the accordian and all, but in some songs it's way too overpowering. Secondly, on the previous two albums, Hittavainen's incredible musical skills carried each and every song to new heights of awesomeness. On "Tales..." it seems like in some songs he's shoved into the background, drowned out by all the overly noisy guitars and accordian. If you listen hard you can hear him ripping out some great recorder and tin whistle melodies, but you really have to pay attention. Most of the music on here is a lot harsher and faster paced, straying away from the more upbeat and folky previous albums, namely on Väkirauta, which sounds like something directly from a Finntroll album. Happy Little Boozer is a pretty decent song, but gets a little repetative by the fourth minute or so. Basically, once you hear the first couple minutes of each song, you know what the rest will sound like, there's not a lot of variation. It's not a bad album at all, but I do like Voice Of Wilderness a whole lot better. For the better---Tuli Kokko, Korpiklaani, Free Like an Eagle, and Under the Sun are exquisite songs which will please any Korpiklaani fan. This is still way, way better than most of the crap out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good
Good music, would like at least to have English translations of the lyrics so I could understand the non-Engish songs. But like I said the music is still good.

That's how I like to think of Korpiklaani. They're like the little brother of Finntroll. That does not mean that Korpiklaani is not as good as Finntroll. Read more
