About the Author

Living and running in the thin air of Denver, Dimity McDowell has one husband, two kids, and one dog. She's survived three marathons, including one at the end of Ironman Couer d'Alene, but doubts she'll ever go 26.2 on pavement again.

Living and running in the misty air of Portland, Oregon, Sarah Bowen Shea also has one husband, but three kids and a cat. She's gritted out a dozen marathons, including qualifying for and running Boston.

Together, the duo head up the website anothermotherrunner.com and motherrunnerstore.com, comments frequently at Run Like a Mother: The Book on Facebook, and banters on the Another Mother Runner podcasts on iTunes.

From the curators of the wittiest and fittest tribe of badasses on the planet (and by badass I mean regular moms, young and old, big and small, who make running a part of their daily lives,) comes the third installment in the now infamous “Another Mother Runner" books. This gem is 200 pages of both belly laughing and heart tugging inspiration that will undoubtedly get you to take your first step, or ten thousandth step, out the door. Seasoned mother runners, walkers, and newbies who just may be starting their running journey, will appreciate the honesty and frankness of the essays in the book. All of the essayists unselfishly share, both with humor and passion, topics such as their humble running beginnings, personal stories of running to overcome loss, depression, disease, as well as body image issues- just to name a few. Intertwined with pages of earnest quotes and sharp anecdotes from mother runners on everything from the spiritual side of running, to the TMI side (think chafing and female bodily functions) to the joyful and challenging side of running, this bible for your badass self should be mandatory reading for all mamas ready to get their run (or walk) on.

Already a mother runner? Then settle in with some electrolyte tea, compression knee high socks, and prepare to peruse with delight plenty of epigrammatic and intelligently written stories from the pavement that you will absolutely be able relate to. It is a tour of the seasons in your running life, and no matter what season you may be in now, it’s a good bet your season can be found amongst these essays.

Whether your idea of a run is clocking a 7 minute mile, or pushing your little ones in the jogger down to the park at 15 MPH, YOU ARE A MOTHER RUNNER.

I've been following this tribe since the first book came out in 2010 (Run Like a Mother) because Sarah and Dimity have created a community that is honest, encouraging, funny, and inspiring. When I heard they were compiling an anthology, I practically begged to be included. Lucky for me, they said yes. As I paged through the book, I was overcome with gratitude—not only because I was included among a roster of terrific writers and women, but because each essay spoke to some part of me. From the introduction, with its profound nod to friendship and community, to the diverse essays, I feel like I discovered 20-some new friends in these words. More than that, I'm inspired to double down on the things that bring me joy in my life as a mother, a writer, and a runner.

I wasn't expecting much out of this book but then found myself longing to read it way after bed time, on the treadmill, and during shows. Full of candid accounts of humility, embarrassment, joy, and pride that all female runners can relate to. It's a lighthearted read that doesn't cover specifics on tempo runs or training plans, but may encourage you to start or get back to your run.

As an absolute fan and member of the BAMR tribe, this book was the PERFECT episode to complete the trilogy. On the first book by Sarah and Dim, I fell in love with running and became a part of a tribe. With the second one, I excelled and worked hard with their training plans to get stronger, go farther and fastest. I even join Dimity and Sarah to run a Ragnar Race with a team of other fellow BAMRs... with the third one, it all came to full circle and I was able to share the stories, tears and laughter of the tribe they have put together that makes us all Bad Ass Mother Runners have a purpose and a place where we belong. where we can cure any heartache and worry with a mile, or twenty, and where a PR is one of the biggest achievements we can have as women, same as we hit milestones with our kids or our marriage. this book gave me incessant laughter and tears. It made me feel joy and pain. Page by page, story by story...mile by mile.... You should not only read this book but the 2 before this one. Cannot wait for the audoibook.... I am training for the Berlin Marathon in September and it will be perfect companion for my long runs over the summer!

This, the third installment in the Mother Runner "series," is similar to the others in some features, but where it departs is where it also shines. I loved the first two for the quirky, tongue-in-cheek tone as much as for the useful advice. This one still has the funny and touching themed quote sections from "Other Mother Runners," which provide comic relief and break up the sections. The essays that comprise the bulk of the book are wonderful. They are funny, or touching, or powerful, or empowering. They are, above all, relatable. Some of these women have done extraordinary things (as we all have, when you think about it!), but inside, they are all like the rest of the tribe of Mother Runners. We are all doing our best to be our best- for our families and for ourselves. Great lessons and reminders in the pages of this book.

About to run my first half marathon in 3 weeks this book was exactly what I needed to keep my motivation up and inspire me to give it my all. I found a piece of myself in so many of these stories and validation as a real BAMR. I appreciated the honesty in each story and loved finding a bit of common ground with sports idols like Kara, Lauren, Summer and Christy as they balance the elixir that is running with life and motherhood. Thanks Dimity and Sarah!
