This book, while accessible to young readers, has beautiful illustrations and concise language that contain much of the spirit behind the arthurian legends. A sublime reading experience.

I use this book as the last thing I do with my 7th graders. They study the Middle Ages in social studies and this is a great cross-curricular activity. My students are restless and ready to be out of school for the summer at this time of year, but they LOVE this book. Many, many of my reluctant readers tell me every year how much they enjoy this book - even if they have always hated reading.

This retelling of Arthurian legend is spellbinding. My eight-year old is completely entranced by this book, and he's been talking about it with his friends at school. What I like best about it is that it's very accessible without feeling "dumbed-down" for a younger audience; the feel of the original is intact. Highly recommended, as are other titles in the "Usborne Classics Retold" series (Treasure Island is another favorite here).
