Editorial Reviews

Full title - Tales From The Australian Underground Singles 1976 - 1989. An amazing 2 CD collection of some of the greatest 45's released during Australia's most prolific era for independent music. Comparable to 'Born Out Of Time' & 'Do The Pop' this comp promises to please any fan of Australian garage, punk & rock from the 70's & 80's. Highlights include selections from the previous careers of acts like Hoodoo Gurus (The Victims & Fun Things), Gangajang (The Riptides), The Cruel Sea (Sekret Sekret), Dave Graney (The Moodists), Big Heavy Stuff (Ups & Downs), You Am I (The Bamboos), Tex Perkins (Thug), Dirty Three (Venom P. Stinger) as well as classic early releases from Radio Birdman, The Saints, The Scientists, Triffids, Died Pretty, The Mark Of Cain & the Hard-Ons. Feel Presents Pty. 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars Australian punk rock!, February 19, 2010

This review is from: Tales From the Australian (Audio CD)
All these compilations of the Australian punk years: Tales From The Australian Underground, Do The Pop, Inner City Sound, Murder Punk, Where The Birdmen Flew are all very, very addictive and well put together. They give you a very broad overview of the whole punk scene in Australia at the time. I thank everyone who put one of these compilations together because they've been lifesavers.

There are some well-known songs on this Australian Underground first compilation but tons more buried gems that you've never heard of. If you like punk or postpunk it's highly recommended. I guess if you're curious you can look some of this stuff up on YouTube to get a taste.

I'm wondering why this is selling new for $52 and volume 2 is selling new for $20. Anyone know? Just pick up the used copy that's selling new of Vol.1 for $18.

This compilation and Vol.2 has a very big booklet with liner notes about all the songs that were included. Well worth the money if you can afford it or are interested in the time/bands/Australia/punk, etc.
