Submariner dredges up memories!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tales From Da Bronx Submariner (Paperback)
As a former submariner I thoroughly enjoyed the book. When I started reading it I kept telling my wife how much I was enjoying it. She kept saying "You could have written a book like that." I quickly told her that Chief Kamuf did, I didn't and he either had a great memory or kept a log. In any event, I thought the book, and by implication, the author's life was great. It brought back a lot of memories. I was a diesel submarine officer in the late sixties and early seventies and could easily relate to many of the challenges, escapades and frustrations. I chaired a submarine reunion in 1999 and that experience dredged up all sorts of memories and caused me to have dreams and nightmares about my time in the boats. This book had the same effect. It was captivating.
There were a few typos and such but it did not detract from the overall reading experience. It was a great read. Well Done! Finally, the role drink played in his life, and the life of many submariners, was accurately portrayed. Alcohol ultimately took its toll but you'll have to read the book to get the rest of the story.

Tales from Da Bronx Submariner,
This review is from: Tales From Da Bronx Submariner (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading Muff's tales but I think he left out some good ones. We crossed paths on and off for over 20 years starting by getting booted from Nuke Scchool at about the same time, then at Sub School and at the Chief's Club. I'm glad somebody put some of this erra in a book.

Dace recollections,

Don does a good job here. I was on Dace with him and his descriptions of the drain pump and hydraulic problems bring back a flood of memories. I was a junior nuke at the time and was standing AEA watches. Part of the duties of the AEA was to operate the Drain Pump Control Panel. Many of my on watch hours were spent at that panel trying to get that damn drain pump to work. This is a very good enlisted mans view of the submarine culture and community.Muff died a few months ago and we old Dace guys will miss him
