Gems in your briefcase,
By Jim Rashid (Burlington, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tales for Commuters & Other Time Travelers (Paperback)
These well crafted little gems posses the magic to whisk you away on a grand tour of a vast dreamscape of Stallings' versatile imagination. This literary amusement park of a book contains rides that will transport you to destinations seemingly grounded in everyday reality but with an express connection to Platonic phantasms of other-worldly existence. Remarkably, Stallings manages to impart, to each short story, a writing style of its own - suited to the idea explored and the setting construed. The author has little time at his disposal to paint a sensory canvas, so he aims directly at the reader's heart comanding total committment to a joy-ride through the uncharted waters of human condition. Each story reads like a distillation of a larger work, yet contains all the elements necessary - the beginning, the middle and the end, thus sending you on your way to your next stop with a gratifying resolution. This book is well worth its weight in your briefcase.
