This review is from: Tales of the Dark Knight: Batman's First Fifty Years 1939-1989 (Paperback)
I really wasn't expecting much from this book for two reason. 1. It's pretty dated. A LOT has happened since 1989. What, at least two Crisis' right? Plus a death of and return of Batman. 2. It was dirt cheap. Well to my surprise the two concerns add to the pleasure of this book. It does not attempt to do what Wikipedia does by giving a detailed rundown of all of the accomplishments and struggles the dark knight has gone through. Instead it focuses on the fun stuff. His beginning in 1939, his love interests, controversy regarding comics and the youth, how he was considered Pop Art in the 70's and 80's, and even his time traveling adventures. The fact that this is written up to '89 is really irrelevant. 2. It WAS dirt cheap. It was also VERY enjoyable. What a great combo. If you're a fan at all exploring some of the not-so-heavily-focused-on Bat related nostalgia then this is the book for you.
