Pleasant suprises, June 22, 2007
This review is from: Tales From Earthsea (Audio CD)
It may interest you to know that this recording comes with some little bonuses not listed by Amazon:
- Inside the little liner book, there is a free 'movie card' printed on clear plastic, with an image from the film (mine had Ged, but there might be different ones.)
- This CD is a Hybrid Multi-Channel Super Audio CD. This means you can play it as you would any normal CD on a CD player, and on a SACD capable system, you can listen in high quality stereo and 5.1 surround sound.
All these little bonuses aside, musically this is a very enjoyable recording. Even if you can't speak Japanese (as I cannot), there is a lot to be enjoyed here.

Aoi Teshima shines and all the music is beautiful, October 9, 2007
This review is from: Tales From Earthsea (Audio CD)
I owned the soundtrack before I saw the film and I thoroughly enjoyed the luscious orchestral music for Tales From Earthsea, it is every bit as good as the music for Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle and those films set very high standards indeed!
The music ranges atmospheric to grand, to the gentle, to epic, to the frankly moving and romantic, to colourful ethic music. The orchestral theme from Tales From Earthsea tugs on the heartstrings in the most beguiling way. The song from young Miss Aoi Teshima, who voices the role of Therru, is very simple, beautiful and moving. I can understand why Miyazaki-san was so taken with her!
All in all, a beautiful soundtrack with some exceptionally good music in it. This much can be said of almost all the Studio Ghible soundtracks.
