5.0 out of 5 stars An instant Classic, December 30, 2007
This review is from: Tales of O. Henry Sixty-Two Stories (Leather Bound)
These stories are amazing! I am not typically a big fan of the short story but this collection by Mr. Porter has made me a fan of his. The wit, the unexpected twist and turns always leaves you with a surprise ending. This is one of the great story tellers and should be an inspiration to anyone who wants to write and does not have a higher education. O. Henry or William Porter never went to college and yet his star shines equal to a Hemingway, Stevenson, or Dickens.

5.0 out of 5 stars No other short story writer can compete with O. Henry, February 16, 2009
This review is from: Tales of O. Henry Sixty-Two Stories (Leather Bound)
A newspaper story writer turned stock swindler from the late ninteenth century, O. Henry has lived more in his day than many of us will ever live today. His stories reflect his experiences and are widely considered some of the best American Literature ever written.

This classic work contains all of the stories that we remember from seventh grade and so many others, all of equal quality, that it would be futile to attempt to compare them.

The stories are set in nineteenth century America, both in urban, New York City, and deep country environs, mainly the desert Southwest. They will make you laugh and they will make you cry. No doubt these stories were enhanced by O. Henry's experiences living in these areas. In typical fashion they contain a story line that is usually contradicted at the end with an ironic twist.

I warn the reader that once you pick up the book, you may not be able to put it down. This book is a must for every classical literature library.

Enjoy this work.
