Nothing Really New, August 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Tales from the Lotus Pod/Ltd (Audio CD)
First off, I am a huge fan of ICP, Twiztid, Blaze, ABK and Lotus, but I felt a little ripped off by the revised edition of Dark Lotus. The reason for this release was because original Lotus member Marz left the group shortly after the release of the original version and began dissing them. After that they decided to put Marz away for good so they let Anybody Killa fill in and write his own stuff and record it over Marz' stuff. That is just what they did. That's it! You have to buy a whole new version of a cd you probably already own just so you hear ABK do a few different verses. Not only that but ABK doesn't fill in for all of Marz' verses either. On "Something" all they did was cut out Marz' verse, they didn't even add a new one, same goes for "I'm Sexy." Also, what happened to the two songs with Three 6 Mafia they promised would be on here? They are not here. Dark Lotus should have just done it right in the first place and put ABK in before Marz. This would have been a cool release if this was the original. I mean ABK is awesome. I suggest getting this only if you don't have the first one though.

People know the deal with this CD. The original version had a guy called Marz on it, and a couple weeks after it was released he got kicked from the lineup for reasons nobody can aggree on.
So, many months later this "official" version of the album surfaced.
THE ORIGINAL vesion had red foil printing
THIS version has a gold foil printing
THIS ONE looks much better!
Well, it sounded appealing that they replaced Marz's appearances on the original album with Anybody Killa - someone we've grown to love. It all sounds like a good idea. ABK on an an "improved" version. So, why only one star?
There's something WRONG WITH IT! First of all, it seems Mike P ran into some problems editing Marz out. Marz can be heard many times throughout the album. Often, when Marz isn't evident on a track, adlibs from his verses by Violent J are audible.
Most notably at the end of Anybody Killa's new verse on "Juggalo Family" Violent J clearly screams "D-I-E!!!" (a remnant of Marz's verse on the original version of the song). Marz's voice is still on "Gimme Dat Blood" "Call Upon Your Gods" and "Swarm". Sudden LOUD outbursts of Marz's voice during ABK's verses. It's embarassing how much he's on the album when he was supposed to be cut out. I'm surprised this album was even released.
One of the worst editing problems is on the track "Something" where for some reason, Marz's verse was removed without a replacement by ABK. What happens is that the hook had to be used from a later part of the song to take place of the end of the hook on the original where the beginning of Marz's verse would have been heard.... SO what you hear is the song's hook followed by the END of Marz's verse and a bit of the beginning of Violent J's verse (from a later part of the song) SIMULTANEOUSLY in the middle of the song disrupting Shaggy 2 Dope's verse a bit. HARD TO LISTEN TO! SOUNDS VERY UN-PROFESSIONAL!
AMAZING! Not to mention the cheaply-inserted (and inappropriate) one-line diss to Marz right before "Swarm".
"Hey yo Marz"
"You never was Lotus and you know dis, biotch"
All of this without even considering ABK's verses are corny in comparison to Marz's. On "Juggalo Family" ABK sounds like he has a sore throat. Furthermore, he replaces the words of Marz's part in the chorus ("Say what you will of me") with a phrase that doesn't make sense
"Until eternity"
... There is no "until". Eternity is not an event! Eternity is defined as a state of timelessness - without beginning or ending.
At any rate, a friend once told me that this CD is "so whack it doesn't exist", and I urge each and every one of you to keep that in mind. Just forget it. It simply doesn't exist. Buy the ORIGINAL VERSION. It just doesn't matter what Violent J thinks, the Dark Carnival was with Marz on the original, and the ABK version of this CD was botched.
Except for the cover, of course. I ended up sticking the original Lotus CD into the case of this CD, but believe me, that's the only good thing about this CD. Its cover, and it's not worth the price of the CD.
There's no way I have accurately described how badly messed-up this CD came out. Even by reading this, you still might not believe me. I'm SERIOUS! It's worse than you're imagining it could be. I didn't think it could be so bad either. Just trust me, you will regret it if you buy this CD.
THE ORIGINAL PRINT IS ALL YOU WILL EVER WANT. BUY THAT!
