5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense!, June 1, 2008
This review is from: Tales of Mystery and Suspense Featuring Suspense 8 (Audio Cassette)
Those ominous chimes! Each week listeners of old time radio awaited them eagerly for what they knew would be another solid tale of mystery and suspense. "Suspense" was certainly one of the finest radio shows ever broadcast into homes. Roma Wines and Autolite became houshold names because they sponsored radio's best written show of its kind.

Famous stars of the day were always delighted to appear on "Suspense." It was not only great exposure between film releases, but offered a chance to stretch their acting skills. Those stars are in evidence here in this collection. Even stars normally associated with music and comedy, such as Donald O'Connor, thrilled audiences in dark tales of crime and sometimes the supernatural.

Appearing here are: Joseph Cotten (Blood Sacrifice) -- Alan Baxter (Money Talks) -- Robert Young (The Night Reveals) -- Joan Bennett (The Statement of Mary Blake) -- Dana Andrews (If the Dead Could Talk) -- William Bendix (Pearls are a Nuisance) -- Donald O'Connor (Smiley) -- Maureen O'Sullivan (The Black Shawl)

These eight gems will have you using your imagination as no television show or feature film can. Radio was a theatre of the imagination, stretching the mind into shadowed corners and crimes with a twist. An excellent introduction to old radio, and especially "Suspense." Those curious about this now nearly forgotten medium which once ruled the nation can discover why with this sterling collection of stories guaranteed to keep you in, Suspense!
