Wonderfully haunting, wonderfully New England,
By Joan the Vampire Slayer (Plymouth, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tales of an October Moon (Audio Cassette)
I have had this audio book since it's release in 1992, My mom had a Halloween party every year and it was one of the costume contest prizes. Thanks goodness she bought enough to keep one. These stories, though created by Mr Levitt, are steeped with age and the stuff of old New England legend- or just feel that way. Either way it's credit to his talent. I spent years waiting for my kids to be old enough to share it with them. Now my oldest is and she just eats it up.
The four stories are: The Little Skelliton Girl (possibly my very favorite!)/The Scituate River(the stuff of Urban Legend)/ The Old Man of the Stone Wall (an other favorite)/ The Purple Bishop (saving the spookiest for the end) Publishers recommendation of ages 9 and over is appropriate. Though if you have a younger one how loves the spooky stuff, listen ahead, some are more scary than others and you can introduce the gentler stories. Levitt's voice and vocal work is superb and the music and sound effects round off this performance beautifully. |
