Editorial Reviews

Expect a massive but melodic punch, right in your face. It s all here: intense, powerful riff attacks, great lead guitar work and Charly Steinhauer´s typical vocals. Imagine Tales Of The Weird to be a new Metallica album, the worldwide fanbase of Hetfield & Ulrich would cry out in joy! PARADOX show the Metal scene how it can sound like when originators of a genre stick to their roots but evolve by using today´s technological opportunities and refined songwriting.

German power/thrash band Paradox has had an interesting history. While not a silly band, they can more or less be considered the Spinal Tap of thrash bands as besides frontman Charly Steinhauer, there has been a rotating cast of characters in the band and multiple disbandments; yet, despite all this, Paradox has maintained a consistent album track record. This is no exception to the band’s sixth album, the oddly titled “Tales of the Weird.”

As you would assume with a band with many past members, Paradox has been through quite a bit of drama. In the mid-late 80s when they began, they were one of a plethora of thrash bands, and despite putting out two albums, the solid “Product of Imagination” and the classic “Heresy.” Unfortunately, due to many internal conflicts, the band disbanded soon after. However, in 1998, Charly reactivated the band and released another solid release in “Collision Course” in 2000, an album that was more of a power/thrash sound than a thrash sound like their previous two albums had.

Unfortunately though, once again the band disbanded after the “Collision Course” release, this time due to serious intestinal problems Steinhauer was dealing with at the time. Eight years later though, Steinhauer returned stronger than ever with Paradox’s fourth album “Electrify”, and “Riot Squad” in 2009. A year or so after “Riot Squad”, Paradox almost broke up again, before Charly was able to recruit two new members Daniel Buld (ex-Hatred) and Christian Munzner (ex-Necrophagist) for their latest release “Tales of the Weird.” Once again though, the future of the band isn’t looking bright as Charly recently had heart surgery in December. Despite that though, the band has released quite possibly the best album of their career.

Great album. Totally in line with everything the band's done since "Collision Course". An improvement from Riot Squad, and Riot Squad was great!
