I was fortunate to hear this CD when it first came out, and LOVED it from the first! 1.0 out of 5 stars Not what you would expect and out of date
This is Warren Haynes first official solo CD. It was recorded in 1992, between stints with the Allman Brothers. The songs are 5 to 7 minutes long, and the CD is 66 minutes. Sound quality is good.

This CD is nothing like Haynes has done with the Allman Brothers or Gov't Mule. It is done in the hard rock style of the late seventies to mid-eighties. It...

I was fortunate to hear this CD when it first came out, and LOVED it from the first! Warren recorded this approximately 14 mos. before the first rumblings of Gov't Mule were heard, and anyone who has any sense of musical appreciation could tell that he was going to be one of the underappreciated talents in Music today. The CD was released without much fanfare, but grew in poprlarity throughout the ranks of the Allman Brothers Band faithful quickly, and still remains one of my favorites to this day. The blend of Warren's tough, bluesy voice and the solid aggresive slide playing; coupled with the great musicianship of his backups created one of the best fusion recordings I've ever heard..I was lucky enough to see Warren perform the music live, and was just blown away! If you like great slide guitar, with a funky/bluesy twist, you will like this CD. Check it out.... I don't think you'll be disappointed!

A brilliant CD from a superb musician/guitarist. Great songs with inspirational lyrics that almost reach dylanesc depth and perception. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I find the depth of lyrics a bonus and not a minus. Warren also has one of the best voices in rock and delivers with great emotion and conviction. I wish he had played a bit ( even a lot ) more guitar as this CD contains some very choice solos and guitar work. This guy is world class, but doesn't show it enough on this CD. In every way this is a brilliant BLUES/ROCK CD from one very underrated singer/guitarists. More guitar would certainly have gained this CD 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intense display of musical integrity, February 13, 1999

I believe this disc was released on the brink of Warren's departure from the famed Allman Bros. This disc shows a powerful side of Warren's unique capabilities to combine his powerful guitar playing with his soulful voice. An excellent example of what every blues based rock album should contain, feeling, emotion, and original self expression. This disc is a must have if you are a fan of well rounded guitar skills and powerful vocals. An added benefit of this disc is the presence of Chuck Lavell on Keyboards and the production.

Don't know what some of the other reviewers had stuffed in their ears, but this is one of my favorite albums!

Yeah, this is a bit more straight ahead rock, not so much of the 20 minute improvs as in Gov't Mule, but they are all great songs, and with Warren Hayne's voice, guitar and writing, how can you go wrong?

I am a huge fan of Gov't Mule also, and I think anyone who can appreciate the incredible talent of Warren in that context will like this as well.

Some people always want an artist to make the same album over and over, can't deal with even slight changes. Too bad, they are missing out on a world of great music...

5.0 out of 5 stars So Where Is This Danny Draher you speak of?, January 13, 2006
This review is from: Tales of Ordinary Madness (Audio CD)
SSIA. Clearly the listener hasn't seen Warren and Friends at the Bowery (February 2005), or Warren live acoustic (Bowery and Town Hall (June 2004), or even Warren tearing it up with Soulive at Tribeca Rock Club (February 2004). This was an album for Warren's touring band whose members included, among others, Danny Louis, now the Keyboards for Government Mule. Musicians on this album include among others: Chuck Leavell, Johnny Neel, Marc Quinones (ABB), and Bernie Worrell.

Most notable tunes on this album: Fire in The Kitchen, I'll Be The One, Power and the Glory, and Broken Promised Land. Warren's Bonnaroo Album, and newer Deja Voodoo provide a sense of where he is going musically. Check out http://www.mule.net for more information on Warren and the Mule

5.0 out of 5 stars Warren Haynes easily in the top ten guitarists ever!, April 19, 2009

Haynes' work with the Allman Brothers' Band got me familiar with his name. The few Gov't Mule songs I'd heard on the radio made me raise my eyebrows a little. When I bought my first Gov't Mule CD, I was hooked on this guy's fantastic playing and songwriting. I had to know more, so I checked out all his work at Amazon, and found Tales of Ordinary Madness. He's easily in the top five of my favorite guitarists. I just saw that Clapton and the Allman Brothers played together at the Beacon Theater in NYC. Haynes, Clapton, and Betts together on the same stage? Wish I was there. Check out some phone-videos of this event at youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIg-PNubfWc

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Rockin' Blues to the Masses, October 22, 2008
This review is from: Tales of Ordinary Madness (Audio CD)
I bought this album when it came out in 92, and from that time I was hooked on Warren's sound. He is a great addition to the Allman Brothers Band and hope they continue what they started. As far as this disc goes, I can't say enough good things about it, my fave tracks are Blue Radio and Broken Promise Land. In many of his songs, Warren sings as if his heart was broken just moments before he recorded it. It's that kind of raw emotion and power that I think is missing from the music scene today. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Solo CD From Allmans/Mule Guitarist/Vocalist/Songwriter, August 4, 2007
This review is from: Tales of Ordinary Madness (Audio CD)
TALES OF ORDINARY MADNESS is a great CD by Warren Haynes, even if it doesn't quite measure up to his work with the Allman Brothers Band and Government Mule. Even though some songs drag a bit, the majority are strong, solid blues-rock with heavy soul and funk influences. The CD has a feel similar to the Band, Delaney & Bonnie, and Joe Cocker's MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN. Haynes' advocacies of sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, as well as increased funding for law enforcement, make this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
