Bobby is one of my favorite poker players. Unlike many of the players of today he holds his head high and earns respect. I first read this book in the late 1980's and enjoyed it tremendously. Being new to the world of poker at the time I was drawn by the "real-life" and historical aspect of the book. Very entertaining and engaging. A look back, now, on the way things once were. I frequently gave this to friends and family who didn't understand what we were doing! As for the "not essential" review...it is not a how to. This is a personal version of events not a tutorial.

I paid a high out-of-print price for this, and was disappointed. There's not enough poker advice here.
