In the 120 years of the Philadelphia Phillies, there is one unavoidable description of the franchise. It was often last, but seldom dull. This is a club, after all, that once had a lefthanded catcher named Jack Clements. Bill Hulen was a shortstop. He was also lefthanded. The Phillies had a pitcher who was aptly nicknamed "Boom Boom" Beck and third baseman Mike Schmidt once tried to disguise himself by wearing a wig onto the field. Many of the stories in Tales from the Phillies Dugout head in the direction of being humorous. A few are more serious. Some are even tragic. All in all, this is a book about a franchise that has overflowed with colorful characters and the strange, the odd, and the outrageous events with which they've been connected.

About the Author
Rich Westcott is a veteran journalist considered the foremost authority on Phillies history. He was the founder in 1983 and until July 1997 the publisher and editor of Phillies Report, the nation´s oldest continuous baseball team paper. The author of 13 books, Westcott was commissioned by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2000 to write A Century of Phillies Baseball. He also wrote the chapter on the Phillies for the Encyclopedia of Major League Baseball Team Histories, National League, published by Meckler Books in 1991. He has written for numerous national publications, including Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, and Baseball America. He is also one of the official scorers at Phillies games. Westcott serves on the selection committee for the Philadelphia Baseball Hall of Fame, the board of governors for the Philadelphia Sports Writers´ Association, and is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

I have been a phillies fan for 43 years and my biggest thrill came at 11:29 P.M. October 21,1980 when they won their only world championship.I am also a student of PHILLIES history especially 19th century history.Since they have lost more games than any other sports francise I feel that the PHILLIES and this book represent life itself!We all must struggle but when we reach the top of the mountain it was well worth the wait.This great book talks about all of the trials the PHILLIES have experienced since Tuesday,May 1,1883.I recommend this book to everyone especially ALL THE PHILLIES FANS!GOD BLESS THE PHILLIES!!
