The fallout from the book was widespread! Readers began visiting Puerto Vallarta with an eye toward retiring there; many did! The funds generated by the book also meant that hundreds of bright, ambitious Puerto Vallarta girls and boys without the economic means to finish their educations received scholarships; many went on to graduate from college.
