This review is from: Tales of the Tempest (Japanese Import Video Game) (Video Game)
I'm taking Japanese so when I saw that this game was only in Japanese, I snatched it up. It's a fun game. I like the characters, and the storyline, too. Sometimes the story and navigation got a little confusing (story because I don't understand Japanese completely yet) and the maps because they were sometimes long and it was hard to keep all the turns I made straight. But I eventually figured it out and had a good time, and I'm not all that good at navigating, so the maps didn't remain a problem for long. The battle system is fun, and sometimes interesting, because it's a line system. Enemies will be on different lines, or sections, of the battlefield and you can choose which enemy to fight. You jump to a new line by pressing on the plus pad twice in the direction you want to go (up or down). Sometimes I hopped back and forth along the lines if I pressed the plus pad too much (not sure if that's a glitch, but it only lasts for a few seconds). The cooking system in this game is fun. You can stir the ingredients around with the stylus. You have to stir recipes a certain number of times and it's different for each one. That was my favorite part. This Tales cooking system was really cute. If you get a recipe wrong (don't stir enough times), Caius (main character) will say, "It's done...but can you eat it?" which made me laugh. I've heard that this Tales title wasn't a very popular one, but I thought it was fun. Battles were not too hard but still challenging enough, and maps weren't completely impossible to figure out. FF12's map system is why I gave up on playing that, actually....it was a bit too frustrating. But despite having to follow directions in Japanese in Tales of the Tempest (again my Japanese isn't perfect), I did alright. It's a matter of knowing how to recognize North, South, East, and West, and being able to see which direction the characters talk about going. Then you go that way and navigate on your own while waiting for events to show you you've gone the right way. I hope this review was helpful and not too long. I got the game very quickly and began playing it right away. It was a very good price for being a Japanese import, too. Thank you! |
