No dedicated Cleveland Indians baseball fan should miss it,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tales from the Tribe Dugout (Hardcover)
Tales From The Tribe Dugout: A Collection Of The Greatest Cleveland Indians Stories Ever Told compiled by Russell Schneider (professional sportswriter and Cleveland's "The Plain Dealer" columnist for 32 years), is an amazing anthology of the real life experiences of 135 former players, managers, coaches, and executives of the Cleveland Indians. These fascinating and informative anecdotes are usually brief, sometimes eye-opening, sometimes heart-rending, (and occasionally even a touch disturbing), as they describe the highs and lows of professional baseball. Black-and-white sketches of star players illustrate this true-to-life account written largely in the from of anecdotes and quotes from the stellar sports people themselves. No dedicated Cleveland Indians baseball fan should be without their own personal copy of Russell Schneider's Tales From The Tribe Dugout!

THIS IS A GREAT COLLECTION OF STORIES ABOUT MANY STARS, RENEGADES, CHARACTERS, AND LEGENDS WHO PLAYED IN THE TRIBE UNIFORM. I REALLY ENJOYED THE ONES ABOUT SAM MCDOWELL. THIS BOOK BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ALL TRIBE FANS. THIS BOOK IS ALL GOOD!

Runs, Hits and (plenty of) Errors,
This review is from: Tales from the Tribe Dugout (Hardcover)
The book is part of an ongoing series by Sports Publishing LLC, which features retrospective accounts on the history of franchises by former star players and award-winning sportswriters.Russell Schneider was a long-time reporter/columnist for The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer and - before turning his attention to writing a number of books on the Cleveland Indians - a columnist on baseball history for a small chain of weekly newspapers in northeast Ohio. Published in April 2002, there are nearly 140 brief sketches chronicling the great players, bumbling plays and hilarious situations on & off the field. The featured players include Lou Boudreau, Minnie Minoso, "Sudden" Sam McDowell, Omar Vizquel and Orel Hershiser, though the bench generalship of Mickey Cochrane and Doc Edwards are classic round-trippers. Though the book has a significant regional appeal, it is a nice read for any fan gearing up to star in the hot-stove league. |
