Book Description

May 2, 2011 6 - 9 years500L (What's this?)
2012 Winner of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award!

James is a very picky eater. His dad has to get creative—very creative—in order to get James to eat foods he thinks he doesn’t like. He presents James with a series of outlandish scenarios packed with fanciful and gross kid-friendly details—like pre-chewed gum as an alternative to broccoli and lumpy oatmeal that grows so big it eats the dog—in an effort to get James to eat. But it is eventually James himself who discovers that some foods are not so bad, after all, if you’re willing to give them a try.

This irreverently hilarious early reader, illustrated in full color, explores a universal point of contention between parent and child in a playful, satisfying way.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for the picky eaters! October 8, 2011
By p31Mom
Format:Hardcover
The author takes several eating situations and tells tale tells to show the child that eating various items like eggs and oatmeal are a good idea after all. An example, the son tells the father he doesn't want to drink milk. Father replies fine, won't it be nice to have soft bones? and gives some humorous examples of being very flexible before realizing there would be negatives to being a spaghetti bones. Pretty funny and great for children's imagination as well as encouraging them to eat. We started making up our own tall tales with my son getting into the act.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, clever book for any kid who eats! July 12, 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is such a great book, and a very unique take on an old theme that drives all parents crazy--picky eaters. My daughter is 3 and loves this book, and I think she'll probably still love it when she's 8. I think it would appeal to kids of a pretty wide age range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales for Very Picky Eaters January 7, 2012
Format:Hardcover
This book is terrific and my five year old (not at all picky eater) loves it. We've read this book every night before bed since getting it and he's memorized it, he enjoys it so much! The humor is right on the mark for kids and also amusing for adults. The author has taken a unique approach to an age-old complaint. This book engages kids from the inside cover flap (a yes/no test to see if the reader is a picky eater) and also has great illustrations. Highly recommended!
