5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful and Amazing Game! August 6, 2013
Color Name:Playstation 3|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ever since I first played Tales of Destiny way back in 1999 I have been in love with the Tales franchise. While not as immediately recognizable in the mainstream gaming community as the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest/Warrior RPG juggernauts, the "Tales of" series of games have always had a loyal fan base due to the great stories and combat that is the hallmark of the games. The question of whether or not to purchase the latest game in the franchise was a no-brainer for me, and I can say with 100% certainty that I am so happy that I indulged myself.

Controls, Music, & Animation

Every Tales game is painstaking in its delivery of beautiful graphics and music, and Tales of Xillia (henceforth referred to as "ToX") continues in that tradition. Simply put, this game is gorgeous and takes every advantage of the PS3 hardware to simply amaze me. The world of Xillia is bright, colorful, and varied. Environments are dynamic; each exploration area is divided by little "breaks"; while this may seem annoying, the lack of lag when going through a doorway into the next room is practically non-existent. The screen flashes black for one moment and then you are free to control your character.

In addition to the beautiful backgrounds, the characters are 3D mirrors of their anime-inspired sprites used in the cut scenes. While you do notice the difference between the 2D drawing of Milla (the female protagonist) and her 3D avatar, the seamless transition negates any of the very minor aesthetic details. Finally, each character in the game is unique, sporting their own look, and enemies are just as varied and detailed as the "good guys".

Musically speaking, Tales of Xillia boasts an amazing orchestral arrangement with songs to suit every zone in the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Longtime Tales Fan that cried August 6, 2013
Color Name:Playstation 3|Verified Purchase
Wonderful game, and a beautiful C.E
It's so nice to see more and more tales game coming to NA and it's a bigger pleasure to know that the games from longtime fans is bringing in so many more. The Statue is a symbol of how our support has paid off and it is stunning. It may be pricey but the CD and artbook are sturdy and attractive to an amazing game but the statue takes the cake. It's numbered and everything to really feel unique

The artbook is great, the soundtrack comes in a jewel case with inserts and everything (not a sleeve like others) and the Statue/figure is amazing. Great details, good height and size and nice colors. The statue alone was worth the extra $40.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game Addition September 11, 2013
Color Name:Playstation 3|Verified Purchase
Wonderful game + Amazing collector's edition, what else can I ask for? The Milla Statue is just amazing and collection worthy, the music is great and the graphics are simply breathtaking. The Milla statue is on a very sturdy numbered box, art book is hardbound and the cd is on a crystal case. Not to mention the bonus DLCs. The collector's box could be a little thin than i expected but all in all it's a great package.

Game Play, Animations
The game play is easy to understand and i like how i can easily pick up from where i left of because there is a reminder of what i must do to progress to the story. The graphics and music are beautifully made. Character developments and story are also good even though its cliche at most parts. additional DLCs are interesting. Some changes the battle music and some have additional accessories. You can switch the character you are controlling on the world map so you can enjoy looking at the DLC as you walk around. Side comments or dialogues (after battles or during explorations funny at times). Maybe my only complain would be the dubbing. The voices fits them but some times the sound quality seems off. I mean, sometimes it felt like they were talking from across the room or they will talk with inconsistent levels (some will sound low and some will suddenly become high). But over all it's a very enjoyable play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Tales since Abyss September 10, 2013
By Cess007
Color Name:Playstation 3|Verified Purchase
Maybe the story-mechanic didn't work as well as it should be in theory, and some characters behave in a cliche manner; but the gameplay is totally awesome. Branding the best combat mechanics in a while (except for Graces F), the battles are fast, and fun. The story takes some amazing and unexpected plot-twists and the quest can get very addictive.

If it ain't for some cliche points, a semi-broken narrative (imposing a 2nd walkthrough to actually understand several points) and a disappointing final dungeon and battle; the game is totally worth it.
