3.0 out of 5 stars Special Christian Label
Buyers should be aware that this game came with a sticker on the front saying "Christian Version". While this may be what some are looking for, it may not be what you are looking for.

My name is Rhea Zakich and I am the creator of the Ungame. In the years since I developed this effective communication tool I have heard from people all around the world whose lives have been changed by playing it. All of the questions are designed to invite players to share things about themselves that might not come up in ordinary conversation. In this day and age when it is hard to find time to build or strengthen relationships, playing the Ungame can accomplish it in a game-like setting. Young children, teens, parents, all ages seem to enjoy it. Players can only speak on their turn so there will be no interruptions, criticisms, putdowns, or challenges when one is sharing his/her answer. On the gameboard, there are spaces that allow interaction, however, it has been discovered that people are more apt to share honestly if others promise to listen and accept their answers. It's not only a super family game, it's great for parties, social events, and classrooms. Family teachers, counselors and therapists recommend it highly. I didn't intend to be a game inventor but when my children were little, I was stricken with a throat condition that caused me to lose my ability to speak. The doctor's thought it would be permanent, so I was desperate to find a way to communicate with my husband, kids and friends. I was not prepared to live as a mute. One night, after crying out to God for help, I sat at my kitchen table and began to doodle as I reflected on all of the feelings and thoughts that I would never be able to share. I began to write down questions I wished I could ask those I loved. Then I wrote questions that I wished someone would ask me and wait as I wrote my answers. (Most people did not talk to me when I couldn't speak. If they did, they often walked away while I was writing my response). I had no idea that my doodles and questions would someday become the world's most popular communication game with more than 2 million sold around the world. God answered my prayer in an amazing way. I have since regained my voice and now lead workshops on communication around the country.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sharing/getting-to-know-one-another-game There Is!, December 3, 1999

I work in a mental health office, and one lazy Friday afternoon, 2 other case managers and I found the Ungame treasure in a closet under old Halloween and X-mas decorations. "A game?", one remarked. "Umm-m-m, we shouldn't", said another. Then of course, we hastily opened the game and the fun began! 2 of us were relatively new to the agency, and it was amazing how much we would reveal to each other by answering the questions -- like describing a happy marraige, sharing something we're proud of, and giving one word to describe the person to our right. I almost didn't want to go home. And when we placed it back into the closet, we found a prominent home for Ungame, far away from holiday decorations and old printing paper.

I have had this game for some two dozen years now. The ungame is a fun, therapeutic game not only for enjoyment, but for those who are shy, withdrawn, and do not communicate very much. This helps such people to open up and express feelings, opinions, and to share a part of their personal and busy lives. I would recommend this to groups and couples with young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps children express themselves in difficult times, November 2, 2000

I discovered The Ungame years ago, when I was studying to become a teacher, and its creator spoke to our class.

My family sat around the kitchen table for many evenings, playing...laughing, talking, sharing.

...I knew I had to find this product, again.

It's wonderful for opening up lines of communication, and for helping children express themselves in a caring, nurturing situation. It's especially helpful for families torn apart by divorce - to help regain that sense of "family" which children need so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Communicating without pressure, November 4, 2003

I was a teenager when my mother first learned about the Ungame and purchased it for us. Being a typical adolescent, I wasn't all that interested in communicating, but I loved to play games. From the day we bought it (it was just a small wallet with two stacks of cards then) it went everywhere with us: in the car, to restaurants, to the park, to my slumber parties... We laughed and joked and answered questions until we were too exhausted to keep our eyes open any longer. My friends adored it, my extended family loved it and I learned to answer my mother's questions.
Now that I am a mother myself, the Ungame will be a fixture in my own house. I can't imagine not having so much fun getting to know my son (and vice versa).

As I was studying peer tolerance and social justice for my Occupational Therapy degree, I remembered playing this game in high school. The other players and I found Ungame very helpful in understanding each others' point-of-view and learning to tolerate each others' differences. As a master's student in occupational therapy, I highly recommend this game for anyone, especially those leading a teen peer group. However, players are challenged to reveal themselves, so I suggest that players know each other to some degree and are willing to be open-minded.

Fun, Easy to learn, Interesting, Thought provoking providing many enjoyable hours and helps you really get to know the people you play with - even young children who love the attenion they receive- A good buy and a great gift!

East to play yet creates communication and listening and generates real conversation with everyone within the family or group playing (Terrific for dating couples). Our 6 and 7 yr olds particpated fully first time around and EVERYONE enjoyed the game - even Dad who was skeptical because he thought he only gains enjoyment from win / lose competitive games. He was hooked after 1st round.

This is the best family communication and relationship game ever. However there is some confusion about the specific version that will be delivered by Amazon. When I ordered the reviews said that someone had been unhappy because they got the Christian version. Since that is the version I wanted, that didnt deter me. However when mine arrived, it did not include the 3rd stack of cards (other 2 are light and in depth questions) which have Christian frame of reference. Be sure to clarify and confirm the delivery of the style of game you want.

The Christian stack generates good value based and moral discussion around day to day issues and christian principles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Fun, May 22, 2003

This is a healthy game for all ages to play and to interact with each other. It builds self esteem and helps each family member understand more about the feelings of the other players. There need to be some set rules to encourage the players to share their feeling. Such as, No one can talk except the person whose turn it is. When it is your turn, you cannot challenge what another player has shared. It is so warm and fuzzy to hear what the children and the adults are willing to open up in front of the other players. After teaching three children (ages 7, 8 and 9) how to play, I encouraged them to play with each other while I sewed nearby. It was incredible how they made sure each person was complimented on something. One child has been homeless for several years and is just now in an apartment. Her answers were a real eye-opener for the other children. They listened intently and were very supportive. It's a great game!

This is by far the best game our family has ever played and with 4 kids, we've played alot! There is no winner and no loser - so everybody feels good! We have been playing this game with our children since they were 6 years old and we love it! We have learned more about our children by playing this game just once than we could have with a months worth of talks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game for families and close friends or those you want to be closer!, February 6, 2007

This review is from: The Ungame - Christian Version (Toy)
I ordered the standard "Ungame" and got 3 of the Christian version. It simply has an extra set of cards in the box containing the original "Ungame" version so its actually a bonus and you don't have to use the Christian card set unless you want to do so. It will come in handy at church for the set I'm keeping for my immediate family, but the other 2 recipients of the game as a gift were a little put off I'm sad to have to say. OTHERWISE, this is a great game for getting to know one another and getting people to share things about themselves they wouldn't normally blurt out. It's fun and nobody wins or loses so everybody goes home a winner!! I reccomend it highly.
