The Butter Boy is a marvelous concept. It is so EASY to spread the butter on the ear of corn. You can keep it in your fridge to pull out at a moments notice. BUT, would it not have been MORE marvelous to make the butter well the same size as a cube of butter? It is a major pain to cut down the cube ("a little more off here, now just a little more off there") to get it to fit.

I bought one of these only to find that it won't fit the sticks of butter we have here in the west. I think it be a cool product if they made it in 2 sizes.

Also, the paper design would fall off in one wash. It should be printed on or left off.

I purchased this because I thought my kids would get a kick out of it. It is cute and it works well, but you have to trim the butter stick considerably to make it fit, which is a bit messy and wasteful (not to mention an extra step I would prefer to not have to deal with). In addition, you can only fit about half of the length of the butter stick in it. I read somewhere else that there is a difference between east coast and west coast butter sizes (which seems ridiculous) - I live on the east coast and our butter does NOT fit. I would have preferred the plain white one my in-laws have that the entire stick fits into neatly, although it isn't as cute. Also, the apron on the butter girl is a STICKER - when you receive it, the instructions tell you to remove the sticker before washing, then replace it. I didn't tell my husband this, and he put it in the dishwasher, so now the sticker is destroyed and I had to scrape it off (which left a sticky ring). I'm sure I can remove it with with an adhesive remover, but would have preferred that the apron be painted on.

This little tool is a clever solution to buttering your corn without butter ending up everywhere. The butter holder fits perfectly around the corn so that the butter gets on the corn and nothing else. Clever little shape is a bonus.

You have to take the sticker off to clean it - which is fine with me since I think it's stupid looking anyway. The directions say to remove it and put it back on - but I guarantee you it won't last long trying to do that.

Some people have complained that its not sized properly for "a stick" - the problem is that the exact dimensions of "a stick" of butter vary depending on where you are in the country.

I take a stick of butter out of the butter keeper in the fridge and shove it in from the top - the excess just peels off to the sides. No problems. Wouldn't work with a very hard or very soft stick of butter, but works fine coming out of my butter keeper in the fridge. You put the pusher in first, then just push it down to the bottom with the stick of butter. I use half a stick because a whole stick is too long.

Works fine when buttering corn as well.

Here's the problem - there are two slots in the top where the lid fits in. The butter keeper is hollow between the part that holds the butter and the outside where you hold it. No matter how you try, bits of butter WILL get down in those cracks. Then there's no way to really clean it out - there are two little tiny holes in the bottom to drain water out - this isn't a straightforward process either. There's just no way to get this thing clean and be sure it's actually clean. Put it in the dishwasher, and it gets hot enough to melt most of that butter out, but it will leave a residue - the holes are much too small to really allow enough water in to really get the thing clean.

We've been using this product all Summer, with great results. Our 'normal' stick (an East Coast stick, as I understand that they are different on the West Coast) fits in fine - you do need to 'load' it from the bottom (remove the plunger, then insert), but that's not hard at all. Curved to 'fit' the ear of corn. And, we've had no issues with the top falling off. I do suppose it's true that it's not an airtight seal, but we've gone through its' capacity (1/2 stick) in no more than 2 meals, so it's not really an issue for us. It's also top-rack dishwasher safe, so clean-up is a breeze.
