Book Description

"If there was ever a book series to rival Harry Potter, then Talisman of EL is definitely the one." - THE QUEEN OF TEEN FICTION

One Planet.

Two Worlds.

Population: Human ... 7 billion.
Others ... unknown.

When 14-year-old Charlie Blake wakes up sweating and gasping for air in the middle of the night, he knows it is happening again. This time he witnesses a brutal murder. He's afraid to tell anyone. No one would believe him ... because it was a dream. Just like the one he had four years ago - the day before his dad died.

Charlie doesn't know why this is happening. He would give anything to have an ordinary life. The problem: he doesn't belong in the world he knows as home.

He belongs with the others.

From the Back Cover

His father opened fire. 'Derkein, shoot!' he yelled.

Derkein glanced around the room in panic and confusion. He saw no one but his father. Then he felt a sharp pain in his arm, heard his shirt tear, and cried out. Something warm dribbled down his arm. When he placed his hand on it and drew it back, he saw blood. His father screamed, and he looked up and saw him flying across the room, crashing into a bookshelf that collapsed under him.

'Dad!' Derkein sprinted towards him but felt a powerful blow across his chest that sent him flying backwards, and he landed hard on the floor, his gun falling out of his hand. Staggering to his feet, he glanced around for whatever had attacked him but saw nothing. His gaze landed on his father, who was groaning ... and then he was gone. There were no bright lights or loud noise. He had just vanished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! June 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't want to say to much about this book cause I think it would be best for readers to experience this first hand. So I'm gonna keep this short.
Talisman of El is part fantasy, part mythology and pure adventure.
Alecia Stone weaves a strong and passionate journey that follows Derkein, Charlie, Alex and Richmond on a whirlwind journey to the depths of earths-core, to a new dimension called, Arcadia, where Charlie will find out his true fate in this world. Filled with gripping imagination, animated characters and cunning creativity, this story will take you on a heart pounding and fascinating adventure.
I had so much fun reading this book. I felt truly invested with these characters right from minute one. I loved how easy it was to get lost with them and discover hidden truths along the way. I loved the spark these characters had with one another and that there was even a touch of romance to bring hope to future books.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It's a promising start to a bright new series that I can't wait to continue!
Fit for all ages. This is a story worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the read June 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Honestly, I don't know what to say about this book. I keep walking around and thinking about what to say. This book was different in so many ways that I just could not keep my thoughts together to form a good review for it.

When I was first approached to review this book I wasn't sure what to expect, in fact, I was even thinking that this was about aliens. And honestly, if it were left up to me, I probably would not have picked up this book based on just what I know from the little details. So, when I was asked to read it I thought, Why not? This could be interested.

And was I right!

Stone weaved together a complex story revolving around the main character, Charlie, who's destiny is not something that would be expected. And let me just make this disclaimer now: There are no aliens in this story! But honestly, the cover looks like something of a spaceship, or is it just me that sees that? When really looking at it, though, the snake and the Earth show up.

Anyways, the character's I enjoyed. They were going through some serious development, and I liked how Stone wrote the book in such a way that there was something happening all the time, yet it wasn't moving extremely fast. And the character's came to life for me. That was a big one. I had to feel like I would know them and for the most part I did.

The entire plot line took me by surprised and I was swept away from the first page to the last. I can't wait for the rest of the books. This is one that I would have to tell people to put on their summer reading list. It'll be worth it, trust me!

I just finished Talisman of El by Alecia Stone. I've seen this book around for some time so figured it was time to pick it up.

This book stars young Charlie and his friends. He's a foster kid who has struggled to stay in any one family. He starts seeing people who aren't there and dreams about futures that have not yet come to pass. At his new school, he meets Alex, and then finds an injured Derkein, a strange older man who keeps getting older quickly. Before Derkein's life runs out, Charlie has to discover the secret of the mystical Talisman of El.

The premise is promising of this book and there are some good twists. Charlie is a likeable protagonist, and I also liked Derkein. There was some interesting world building also.

That said, there were a lot of issues I had with this book. The prose felt stilted and jarring-- I couldn't get into the rhythm of the words and there were many odd phrasings. The world building tended to come in chunks with characters talking in dense dialogue to relay this information to Charlie and his friends. There was so much randomness in some of this world building that I just skimmed through it because it just seemed to be there for no reason. Finally, the rest of it just dragged. It's a bad sign when you get 75% through a book, and you have to skim to reach the end. I couldn't even sit down and read the rest, it just meandered.

Overall, this book has been hailed as the next Harry Potter. I didn't find it to be so, and would look elsewhere for a fast paced adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chapter by Chapter's review of Talisman of El May 29, 2012

An adventure towards your destiny.

Talisman of El by Alicia Stone took me by surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading it, and am so glad that I enjoyed it so much. It was like Harry Potter meets Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Author, Alicia Stone, introduces us to a world where angels exist, and where the Garden of Eden is not just a myth. We follow the life of main character, Charlie, whose life has been one big tragedy. Losing his mom at childbirth then losing his father at age ten, Charlie has been bouncing from foster home to foster home. Plagued by nightmares, Charlie thinks his life is finally on the right track when he is adopted by Jacob. Little does he know that Jacob is not at all who he thinks he is, which ends up thrusting him into an adventure that will change his life forever.

The characters that we are introduced to in Talisman of El are ones that we won't soon forget. Not only do we see the true meaning of friendship, we are also treated to the innocence of youth when it comes to love and dealing with feelings. As the story progresses, we are treated to a story which involves a unique take on angels and what exactly the importance of the Talisman of El is. It is because of this Talisman that Charlie must dig deep within himself and find the strength and courage to start this journey, and begin his quest to save mankind.

With the many different twists and turns that Alicia Stone weaves into this story, readers will find themselves completely engrossed in Talisman of El. With the many different appealing aspects in this book, readers will find something that will hook them in, and keep their attention.

Fans of adventure, angels, and destiny are in for a treat with Talisman of El. With an ending that leaves room for a sequel, I know I can't wait to see what Alicia Stone has in store for us next, expected to be released sometime in 2013.
