Lots of fun... but not for everyone,
By CrewJulie (GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Talk to Me About the Alphabet (Hardcover)
I bought this book used when my now 2-year old was perhaps 15 months old. We have been reading it periodically since then and it is a really fun break from the standard alphabet books. He likes it, and I have a blast reading it to him (which he enjoys.) This is not a book to read softly, as the artwork and text are full of energy.
It's a book with attitude - (these are not direct quotes as I'm writing from memory) 'Don't give me numbers, don't give me 1 2 3 ... Give me letters! Give me A B C!' 'G is for gu, gu gu gu' (picture of the man drinking a glass of wine) From 'L is for Lion ... and M is for milk, mmmmmm, mine! ... O is for Ow! ooo, oh. P is for Purr and R is for Rest Purrrr .... shhh soft sounds sooothe softly ... T is for time and U is for up! Time to get up!' to 'W is for way cool wheels, wu wu ... X is for exit .. and Y is for Yippeee! ... Zounds! Z if for zippy .. Auf wiedersehen, talk to me again!' The artwork and the man remind me of the Dubonnet man and artwork from the 60's. The book has a European feel, even excluding the bit of French and German used. If you are looking for A is for apple and B is for ball with cute sweet drawings, this isn't the book for you. If you have want something a bit more off the wall, well traveled and touches of adult themes (the wine drinking mainly), then you might enjoy this book with your kids. We do.

A "kid friendly" alphabet picture book,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Talk to Me About the Alphabet (Hardcover)
Written and illustrated by Caldecott Honor artist Chris Raschka, Talk To Me About The Alphabet is a "kid friendly" alphabet picture book, featuring rap-style rhythm, sound-out phrases and scrawl-style color illustrations to introduce young readers to the fundamental twenty-six letters. Talk To Me About The Alphabet is a cheery and recommended "read-aloud" ABC picture book to share with young folks ages 2 to 5.
