This review is from: Talk About a Party: Crest Records Story (Audio CD)
This is a surprising little piece. It is a musical history of the little-known Crest label that managed to put only a few recordings into the limelight. While many of these tunes are very obscure, there are a few that managed to see the light of day in the top-100 and are virtually impossible to find elsewhere. This includes "Three Stars" by Tommy Dee, Glen Campbell's first chart success "Turn Around, Look At Me" (later taken into the top ten by the Vogues) and best of all, "You're The Reason" by Bobby Edwards. The disc is worth these songs alone. And while this is a product of the small independent Rockstar Records of the U.K., they have done an admirable job with this material.
Crest was a small operation - never even producing an album - so you won't find any stereo here and the sound quality is relatively primitive. But these tunes are presented in the best shape available, considering the source. The liner notes are in the form of a 16-page booklet that presents a comprehensive history of the small label and publishing company. This interesting new compilation is a definite find for the collector.
