Biography

Biography by John Bush

A photogenic family band comprising three sisters and one brother, the Corrs -- vocalist Andrea, drummer Caroline, violinist Sharon and guitarist/keyboard player Jim -- blend the music of their Irish background with contemporary pop/rock elements. The quartet formed in 1991 and enjoyed regional popularity in Ireland until 1994, when the American ambassador to the country… Read more in Amazon's The Corrs Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Having created a worldwide sensation with their albums Forgiven, Not Forgotten and Talk on Corners, Ireland's Corrs await the hit that will break them wide open in America. To that end, the group (who've earned a Rolling Stones openers slot) has issued a retooled version of its sophomore set, featuring five songs recast by some of Europe's hottest mixmasters, including K-Klass ("So Young"), Tin Tin ("What Can I Do?" and "Runaway," the latter song being from the group's debut), and "Dreams" (the Stevie Nicks song, remixed by Todd Terry, who turned Everything but the Girl's "Missing" into a smash). The new mixes for the most part aren't radical departures from the originals but strip away some elements, and add some spit and polish to others. "Dreams" is notable for taking the song even harder toward the dance floor without losing its appealing Celtic edge. The rest of the album is the same as the original version of Talk on Corners minus a few tracks, but still including their lovely version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." --Daniel Durchholz

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Of all the Coors albums--buy this one..., November 6, 1999

"kristi-bell" (Ellensburg, WA USA) - See all my reviews
I got this album without realizing it was a remix. As soon as I got it at home, I saw, and had a sinking feeling... REMIX? Yuch... One time in the ol' CD player and I was cured though--because it was absolutely great! I immediately bought the non-remix version and I am completely unimpressed by it.... I have all their albums--and I'd say if you are just getting into the Coors--try this first! You'll love it. If you don't love it--likely you won't enjoy the others much either. Although I never thought I'd say it--the remix version rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars For want of hearing something new, try the Corrs., December 22, 1999
By
Jim S. (san bernardino, california) - See all my reviews
This review has been a long time comin'. I first stumbled upon the Corrs by accident way back in March of this year, sometime around St. Patrick's Day. While channel surfing, I was able to watch the last half of their live performance at the Royal Albert Hall (somewhere in Europe). I believe this was way before their U.S. appearances on SNL and Rosie. It was quite a surprise to discover something different for a change, aside from what was usually heard playing on the radio everyday, at that time. Despite the fact that they're Irish, the Corrs' sound is so unique that I became an instant fan. Hence, I decided to order the video of the performance and this, the "special edition" cd. If you haven't seen the Corrs live, this cd is the next best thing. A majority of the songs are the same ones from the live performance I saw, even though they're the studio session/remix versions. Despite this, the music on the cd sounds great in its own right, whether you keep it in the car, at work, or on your playlist at home. Even though this is a re-release version of their second outing, you won't be disappointed. It's one of my favorites, make it yours.

4.0 out of 5 stars An awesome introduction to real music, July 2, 2000
I 'stumbled' upon the Corrs through a PBS fundraiser, that I wouldn't have watched had it not been for the intriguing performers (the Corrs) being featured.

My first introduction to them was through the radio single 'Runaway,' which caught my attention. It happened to be a case of "I like the song, but who sings it?" I asked around, but no one knew! (Wrong crowd, I guess!) So, thanks to the PBS special, I got that answer and a whole lot more. I bought the featured album and thought it might be the one cd I could take to an island or keep in the car if I could only have one cd! Well, the only reason this one gets 4 stars is because I recently found the ORIGINAL "Talk On Corners" in a used cd section while in VA. I like this album's version of "So Young," and prefer the original's verion of "Dreams."

The special edition does sound a bit more 'pop' oriented when compared to the original, but it made an excellent intro to the group, for me. I also have "Forgiven..." and love that one too. This is one of the few groups that do the producers more justice than the other way around! They rule, and I'm looking forward to their next one!
