With over ten million albums sold worldwide, including one multi-platinum album (Stunt) and two platinum albums (Maroon and Rock Spectacle) in the U.S., Barenaked Ladies are one of Canada's greatest musical exports. After following BNL for many years and many concerts, I was looking forward to this DVD. I thought I might be able to use it to "spread the word" of the Barenaked Ladies. Unfortunately, it appears I was wrong. As always, BNL themselves were very good, but the energy from their live shows did not translate well to this DVD. Also, the irreverent quirkiness that makes them so fun to watch seems to have been toned down for this DVD (Angry People dance notwithstanding). They sounded somewhat nervous, which is a characteristic I have never seen in any of the more than 10 concerts I have attended. The sound, while technically DTS, was average. In many songs, the signature harmonies of BNL can not be heard at all. The DVD-Audio recordings of Maroon and E2E were significantly better. This DVD will live in my collection, although it is not likely that I will watch it very many more times. For an overall concert DVD, it is average, but for an amazing and hyper-entertaining band like BNL, it is a slight disappointment.

So I'm rating this as four stars, so as not to artificially change the overall rating too much. My purpose for this review, is to disclose a technical detail of the Blu-ray disc; not to review the content itself.

The video on this disc uses the VC-1 interlaced format, instead of the more prominent H.264 progressive format. If you're playing out the disc via a standard Blu-ray player, this won't matter to you. But if you're like me, and prefer to digitize your disc library for playback via streaming media players, or Plex, the VC1i format will likely throw some challenges your way. I'm currently attempting to use a tool called Hybrid to transcode the video to x.264. Previous attempts at using MakeMKV, and then transcoding the resultant MKV file with Handbrake (using deinterlace filters) have failed.

Tech geeks beware :)

[Edit 01/13/2014] A solution was uncovered to transcode the video...RipBot264, with ffdshow configured to use 'wmv9' to decode VC-1, instead of the default libavcodec.

Been a huge fan of BNL for at least 12 years and have seen them several times in small clubs and stadiums.

Audio quality is decent with a crisp Video look. Wish they would put out a show shot in 24p Digi-Film style but the audio is still quite nice.

Without Steven in the band perhaps I have moved on. I love Ed's songs but cannot imagine a closing without $1,000,000 and the goofy depression of SP.

My 2¢

i was at the concert, and i was intereviewed for it and got in the dvd. but besides that, its a really good dvd. my only complaint is that they took out a couple of songs and their stories and adlibs, which add so much to the show

Really enjoyed the concert, have always enjoyed their music but never had the chance to see them live. It was great to see their stage antics and be able to get a better feel for their personalities.

This dvd/blu-ray is AMAZING. It is everything I love about BNL. FUN, ENERGETIC, UNPREDICTABLE. I loved every minute of it. If you want to watch great live entertainment at its best....buy this dvd/blu-ray right now. Here is a band who loves what they do and that shines through in their performances. Don't listen to the other reviews because you will miss out on a fabulous live experience. It is the next best thing to being there in person. Yes, Steven Page is no longer with the band and I may be buying this a little late, but after recently seeing them in person I yearned for the camaraderie (did I spell that right???) of the original members. This fit the bill 100%. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection of live music...it will not disappoint.

My girlfriend didn't get to go to a local concert in town and was bummed out, so I got this to cheer her up. Most of the other concerts on Blu-Ray are a total rip off in price, this was one of the cheaper ones and other reviewers said these guys were entertaining. I actually did think it was pretty entertaining, and it was a cool experience to watch with my girlfriend with surround sound because it's pretty damn close to feeling like your at an actual live show. If you don't want to spend a lot of money and wanted to get a concert experience and be entertained, I think this purchase is worth the ten bucks.

I was there!
Does anyone know the name of the song that's playing at the end of the DVD as the titles are scrolling?

Thanks
