5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!, November 1, 2008

I have been waiting for a "complete" live show from Talk Talk for a long time, the wait was worth it....I have some audio clips from this show, but, having the full on video experience and being able to actually watch the band play songs like "It's You" & "I Don't Believe In You" as well as all of the other songs make for an incredible show. Talk Talk has been one, if not my favorite band for a long time now with Spirit Of Eden being my fave album. It's really sad seeing all of the 80's bands getting back together and recording & touring and knowing that Talk Talk will never be one of those bands....Get this DVD!!! You won't regret it....

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, October 31, 2008

I always knew Talk Talk was a great band...on record at least, because I had never heard any live material...and this confirms that they were not only a great band in the studio, but on the stage was well.

The highlights are many...you could say each song is a highlight, it's that good...and, upon first view, IT'S YOU and CALL IN THE NIGHT BOY are the two that seemed to hit me that hardest.

This is an incredible performance, and if you had even a smidge of interest in this band, this will cement their appeal in no uncertain terms.

A great DVD and well worth every cent you pay for it.

This product far surpassed my expectations! The only way it could be better is to package it with a Delorian so you could actually go back in time and be there in person! The talent, passion and dedication that makes Talk Talk so special can be easily seen. Take special note of how spent the guys look when done. Last, but not least, pay attention to Marks (gorgeously sexy) footwear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the 80's!!, December 10, 2008

I'll throw my two cents in here, too. I've waited for YEARS for any full video concerts of Talk Talk to surface, and finally, this one is here. For a twenty year old show, the sound is AMAZING (and even offers a 5.1 DTS option)! Definitely a most underrated band, and they add a lot of color and texture to their live songs, as opposed to bands who stand there and simply recreate their studio versions. Here, the three core members of the band flesh out their sound with extra guitarists, keyboardists and percussion, and it really pays off. However, this is not my favorite show. Not too long ago I ran across a DVD of the band playing in Salamanca, Spain on the same tour, and generally, an even better performace, and the venue itself (the Plaza Mayor) is just breathtaking, making for an even better concert experience. That's the show they should have released, or should at least consider doing next. Nevertheless, Talk Talk live on this DVD is a must-have for any fan of great 80's bands. If any group from that era should reform, Talk Talk is it - and, of course, are also the one band who never will.

We don't normally buy much of physical media anymore. Books, magazines, movies, music -- nowadays they are all available for digital download, rent, or from some streaming service. However, this DVD is a rare gem which absolutely deserves owning since it will be watched and listened over and over again. And the mini poster (size of three DVD boxes) you get with it is also a nice addition.

Incidentally, I stumbled on some clips from this DVD on YouTube (obviously, in much lower quality) and that's how I learned that it was out. I just got it from Amazon and have been watching it over the holidays. I recommend you check it on YouTube first to realize how good it is and then come back and buy the DVD -- you won't regret it!

Talk Talk actually sounds much better live than in the studio, especially the material from the first two albums (studio versions, although also good, used electronic heavily; on the stage they used more classical instruments including some exotic ones). It's also very possible that their music is more much suited for this type of performance. However, we cannot also underestimate the genius of Hollis, Webb and Harris who boldly extended their music far beyond synthesizers and "radio-friendly" tunes to a really deep musical art and a much deeper experience and, more importantly, were able to perform it flawlessly live on stage. Mark Hollis' amazing vocals are simply perfect, it really makes most of the modern singers laughable when you listen their attempts to sing live or use various voice enhancers and pitch correctors.

Another very interesting thing is that they performed 11 songs and said good night. The audience chants brought them back to the stage for the encore and then they performed absolutely stunning versions of "I Don't Believe in You", "Such a Shame" and "Renée"! I don't know if this was planned but these three songs were among their best hits and not even including them in the "regular" song list was really really gutsy! But that's Talk Talk! You are not expected to rationalize, just to watch and enjoy.

The passion and focus they exhibit on stage is really captivating, as another reviewer mentioned, just notice how they are completely spent after the show. It's like they knew that this was the last tour and wanted to go in the history with a style...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Concert DVD's Ever, July 15, 2009
By

Have been collecting live concert DVD's for the last couple of years and have close to 60 including many of the greats such as Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Who, Clapton, etc. Was a big Talk Talk fan since the mid to late 80's and really didn't know what to expect when I purchased this DVD.

This is absolutely one of the best concert DVD's I have seen and rates in my top 5. I could not believe how impressive this band is live and I regret the time they cancelled a show I was scheduled to attend back in the late 80's. The mark of a great band is how they sound live compared to their albums. This live performance is better than their recorded work. If you like Talk Talk's CD's you will love this DVD. Even if you were not a fan or don't remember their work, after viewing this a couple of times you will become a convert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talk Talk Live DVD - It's About Time!, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Talk Talk: Live at Montreux 1986 (DVD)
Like me, I'm certain most Talk Talk fans have been waiting for over 25 years for the chance to purchase Talk Talk live in concert on dvd. Before now, fans have had to search the underground for any live clips of the band. Although the Montreaux concert doesn't compare to their Hammersmith Odeon gig (only available on cd), it does provide everyone with a classic performance including all of their biggest hits. Since EMI has dragged their feet over the years with releasing anything at all by the band, much less dvd, beggars can't be choosers so this disc is a must have. Non-Talk Talk fans will be equally pleased with the band, the beautiful songs, the sound quality, video quality, etc. and the music is just as "current" today as it was in 1986. HUGE kudos to Eagle Rock Entertainment for producing and releasing this gem.
