Cybill's voice is undeniably one of the best kept secrets in America. I'd put her along side Barbara Strisand and Whitney Houston. Her voice is truly distinctive and uncommon. Why this CD isn't at the top of the best seller list is probably because she has a lousy marketing team. "Talk To Me Memphis" is a combination of blues and jazz with some very enthusiastic arrangements thrown in to make this CD an outstanding musical event. Cybill flirts with the listener as she takes you on a brilliant and harmonious journey that delights the senses. You'll have fun listening to this very well done and upbeat CD. After I listened to each song, the first time through, I actually went out and purchased an expensive set of headphones so I could catch every heavenily note and listen more intimately to Cybill's unmistakably beautiful voice. If you want to treat yourself to a delightful hour of music that you can't help but love, I'd reccommend that you buy this CD today. And, if Cybill's marketing people read this, how about letting the whole world know that this lady has a voice that's as good as anyone I've ever heard. Get to work! Moviestar, television star and singing sensation... that's Cybill. Give us more!

"TALK MEMPHIS TO ME",

I have never listened to a variety of music that made me visuallise so much. When I listened to tracks like "BALE STREET BUES" and the album track "TALK MEMPHIS TO ME", I closed my eyes and I was in a smoke filled,down-towm New York jazz club in the 30's and Mrs Sephard was singing away through the cold new york night while the sound of city traffic ond police syrens were drowned away by the lilting melody and entrancing accomponyment. I surgest you buy this album because it will not only inspire you it will take you back in time as she "TALKS MEMPHIS TO ME".

Cybill 5th Album.....a blend of country, blues & pop !,

This is Cybill's 5th Studio Album and a real trip back to her Memphis roots. A blend of country, blues & pop making this a wide appealing listen. Highlights being the heart-felt IF I COULD which finally appears on a Cybill CD.......it's worth noting that long before the track was recorded by Streisand on her "Higher Ground" LP, Cybill had worked her magic with it, unforgettably dedicating a superb performance to her children during her UK concert for BBC Radio. Other stunners are: the sweet-sounding TENNESSEE WALTZ, the Ballad FIND ANOTHER FOOL, the addictive TALK MEMPHIS TO ME (taken from the soundtrack to her CBS Show CYBILL) & the jazzy YOU NEVER KNOW which shows her vocals playing with the notes of this very seductive loungy tune. A great CD !

Cybill actually began as a folk singer before becoming famous as an actress. Her acting career is of no interest to me, so my assessment of Cybill is based entirely on her ability as a singer and the quality of the music. No problem there - Cybill has a lovely voice and uses it well on a selection of songs that may be described as jazz with a blues flavor.Three of the songs - Power of love, Mama's cooking and Find another fool - are covers of Marcia Ball songs. Marcia is an excellent blues-rock singer-songwriter, whose songs Cybill does full justice to. The old standard Tennessee waltz began life as a country song but has been covered by singers in many genres of music. Cybill's version is certainly impressive. Other brilliant covers include Beale Street blues and Walking the dog. Cybill co-wrote the title track, a superb song that really says what the album is all about. If you enjoy jazz with a touch of blues, you will surely enjoy this album.

I bought this for the "Talk Memphis to Me" song. If you're looking for it to sound like what she sang on her Cybill show you will be disappointed. It's still a good song but doesn't sound like the accoustic version on the show. There are a few other pretty good songs. She has an ok voice. I'm not sorry I bought it.

I have always enjoyed the "Cybill" show. Recently, I purchased all four seasons from www.amazon.co.uk (note, you must have an all-region player in order to view these DVDs; an all-region DVD player can be purchased for about $125.00. The DVDs are in PAL format, not the standards NTSC we find in America).
I had the pleasure of hearing Cybill sing "Talk Memphis to Me" with co-star, Tom Wopat. It is a beautiful song. I played the scene over and over because I enjoyed it so much. Cybill sings this to her new granddaughter while sitting in a rocking chair. Tom Wopat enters with his guitar and sings harmony. It was a perfectly touching moment. I'm very glad to have not only found the shows on DVD, which, by the way, the series is going to be released on DVD in America next month, but to have been introduced to the lovely singing voice of Cybill Shepherd. Cybil, when are you going to release "At Long Last Love" on DVD? I have a copy from cable, but it's no in its widescreen aspect ratio. I would now love to see Cybill, like her co-star, Christine Baranski, star in a Broadway show that would showcase her many talents. In addition, the "Cybill" show features a strong and talented supporting cast that went on to further their careers in television and movies.

Mother, model, actress, singer, producer, writer, author....what can't this woman do? This album is absolutely Cybill's best. It didn't surprise me when I learned that Cybill wrote the title song - "Talk Memphis to Me". This ballad is one of the best songs on the CD. Keep it up Cybill!!

Having been lucky enough to see Ms. Shepherd in person at the Rainbow and Stars in New York City and to hear her voice I have to say that her CD Talk Memphis To Me is a great. She has the range and ability to sing a wide avenue of songs. It can be country or rock or blues, she can do it.I have this CD in my truck and listen to it when I want to relax, her other CD's are also worth getting. She is a pleasure to look at and listen to it. Buy this CD you will not be unhappy. |
