Not exactly for students of Arabic,

I must say I was disappointed with this CD. I expected it to provide me with a beginner's foundation in Arabic. For example, I expected it to teach the alphabet (both written and with oral pronunciation) and give some basic grammar. Instead, this looks like it is one of a series of cookie cutter traveler's CD in various languages, where the same generic (white, non-Arab) presenters have travel Arabic voiced over their actual speaking. It is so obvious that the people on the CD are not speaking Arabic and that someone else is doing the audio! It appears that these same two presenters just have the words and phrases from each language in the series voiced over their real voices.
I am not really sure how anyone could learn Arabic from this CD as it is not instructional. It is just a series of travel phrases and vocabulary that one might need to know on a short business trip to the Middle East. The user would have to just repeat the phrases over and over in order to learn them. There are some games included, but again, without having any foundation in the grammar or alphabet it is just purely repetition and memorization. I definitely cannot recommend this CD. I wish I could return it for a refund. |
