If you are a true fan of the contemporary jazz scene of last year then you know Darren as the 'hot' producer in the smoothjazz realm. Having worked with Dave Koz, Wayman Tisdale, Tim Bowman and Eric Darius to name a few this young man has lots of talent and this new cd showcases he is just as talented as an artist. I got his previous cd and I love that one. But the new one blows it away! It is full of potential radio hits. I believe Talk of the Town is the 1st single and Darren smokes on the track. He plays saxophones and keyboards on most tracks and he's really great and making a great groove sound. Every song is great so I say get it and see for yourself about Darren Rahn whom i predict will be the Talk of the Town thoughout the entire contemporary jazz nation this year! Play on Darren!!!

Talk of the Town by Darren Rahn is awesome! Darren's full range of saxophone skills take you from laid back and relaxed to dancing in your seat. I originally purchased the CD for his amazing rendition of "What Cha' Gonna Do For Me." That's the hottest jam on the CD and well worth the price for me. I was pleasantly surprised that many tracks were truly great to listen to as well.

I loved it - upbeat and thrilling with some other great jazz artists on board. Almost every song on this album shined. Definitely pick this one up if you are a smooth jazz fan.. Thanks Darren for not letting the vocals dominate your amazing sax playing!

After hearing this CD in a friend's car, I just had to have it. Darren Rahn does an excellent job of mimicking some of the more prominent and popular jazz saxaphonists. At first listen, I thought that I was listening to Gerald Albright as some of the songs are similiar. I am glad to have this one as part of my collection. I will look for more from this artist.

The Rahn Man has it going on. There's just something about a style that is reflective of many styles, but still manages to sound fresh. Well I think so anyway, and my hard earned has been well spent. Once again, it's a complete joy to be able to put a CD on and get on with the groove until the set is over. To me, this displays an emphasis on producing a solid set, and ok he goes the covers route via Chaka/Patrice/Hall & Oates, but I submit to you that there's some spirited playing going on. I'd say the covers are more enjoyableable than predictable. He really starts to get into the Hall & Oates track towards the end, and I personally wish instead of the fade they'd have let this cat play on. Jamming for sure! As I write this I suppose I'd have to say, indeed, I Can't Go For That is one of my favorite tracks on here, of which I have several. The whole thing does it for me, but if I had to highlight, it's the aforementioned, Tale Of Two Cities, DEFINITELY Secret Crush as he and Jeff Lorber just slow your roll, so to speak. A serious tune which, without a doubt, makes my next smooth compilation. With You By My Side and Easy Does It deserve honorable mention, despite the fact that another reviewer has already clued you in on these too. I'm merely echoing the general consensus with this review. Don't miss out.

Highly melodic Smooth Jazz stylist, Canada-born Darren Rahn is quickly establishing himself as a serious player on the scene. In the mid-90s his collaboration with Wayman Tisdale brought him under the spotlight. Later he started working and touring with some of the brightest new stars in the contemprary jazz department: Tim Bowman, Eric Darius, Kim Waters, and Gregg Karukus. His sax playing is reminiscent of Euge Groove, Steve Cole and Warren Hill. His latest album is the follow-up of his acclaimed 2007 solo debut, "Once in a Lifetime". This selection of self-penned melodies and Soul/pop classics suits that style effortlessly. Of the covers check Chaka Khan's "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me", Hall and Oates's "I Can't Go For That" and Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots". Of the originals you may like the easy on the ear groove of "With you By My Side", featuring guitarist Tim Bowman. Bob James adds his delicate keyboards to understated "Easy Does It" and Jeff Lorber's funky touch ignites the slowish "Secret Crush". The standout is the funky Smooth Jazz opener "Talk Of Two Cities". A bunch of jazz cats lend a hand in this delightful and uplifting release: Tim Bowman (guitar), Wayman Tisdale (bass), Nate Harasim (keyboards), Jeff Lorber (piano) and Ricky Peterson (organ). Once in a Lifetime
