If you're a fan of the Stone Temple Pilots' pop side, you may well find Talk Show the great album that band never quite made. Here the Beatlesque hard-pop that increasingly distinguished STP's work from Tiny Music onward is in the ascendant--most notably on Everybody Loves My Car and Hide. At the same time, there's a lot of variety. Leadoff track Ring Twice gets your attention straight away; along with So Long, it has all the hallmarks of a great STP rocker, and singer Dave Coutts sounds most like Weiland here. (He's a fine vocalist; listen to Hello Hello and Behind to get a good sense of his range.) Everybody's the would-be single. Peeling an Orange, Wash Me Down, Filling the Fields and especially Behind show off the band's softer side to excellent effect.
Granted, Talk Show doesn't have STP's sense of presence. It's just a rock 'n' roll CD. But there's not a bad track here.

Takes 2 listens,

1st impression i got was that this was an average album. But after subsequent listens, it has turned out to be quite good. In fact as good as, if not better then tiny shop by STP. A friend can't get enough of it and he's not really an STP fan. Almost a 5 starer.

Quite a departure for Kretz and the brothers DeLeo,

I recently bought this CD, and while Dave Coutts is no Scott Weiland, he holds his own quite well. The best songs are "Fill the Fields," "Wash Me Down" and "Hide." The album seems much more mellow than most of STP's work. Overall, a worthwhile effort.

Im a bit late hearing about the Super Deleo Bros. side band. err late band... side band whatever..???..
the first song is really the only song that sounds like a STP song. The rest kind of sound like STP but in a weird way dont..? know what i mean? hmmmm.. Filling the Feild is really good. The singers voice is very different than Scotts, but the lyrics can be similiar at times. The cd is listinable more than once. the lyrics arent to deep or as catchy as Scotts. Chances are very high that if you like STP you like will Talk Show. If you have heard Velvet revolver and didnt like it (like me) you will like this. VR has only 2 songs that are similiar to STP. song 10 and 13. the only good songs on the album!

...and that thing is Scott Weiland. Don't get me wrong, Dave Coutts is a good singer, but he's no Scott Weiland. Weiland's voice, lyrics, and chemistry he had with the band is matched with nobody else. Good thing Talk Show bombed and STP reunited for two more albums.

I remember when this came out. I was not comfortable. I heard hello hello on the radio. It was catchy enough. Yet I wasn`t sure of this new derivative of stp. I felt Loyal too STP. But curious. Thank god my curiosity got the best of me. An ecclectic mix of good catch pop rock Hello hello and Ring Twice. ALong with melodic ballads wash me down, behind and fill the fields. As good as anything STP did on their alternative side Purple and tiny music. Not as good if u like their heavier stuff in core and no.4 But since I like it all I don`t care.
And contrary to belief dave coutts can vocally stand up with weiland. Just did not hear him enough to appreciate his less grungy, more clean style; which contrasts scotts. If scott was the filler for this album and dave was the stp singer; I guarantee scott would be villified too. Overall I say it is a clean and almost poppish hippyish album. Antithesis to their grunge stuff. Not a bad thing either; unless ur narrow minded. It holds up well. If u like stp or just good music, buy this.

This CD is a lost gem. I'd heard about Talk Show but never actually listened to them until I bought this CD recently. It's a bit more mellow than most STP stuff, but it's really solid. It kind of resembles the Tiny Music era of STP and #4 (without the heavy tracks like Down etc.) as far as the music is concerned. The reason I gave it 5 stars is because I always expect side projects and solo albums from artists who had massive success and hits to be sub-par. I might be a little generous with the 5 star rating, but when something I'm expecting to be mediocre at best is actually very enjoyable, I tend to give it 5 stars for surpassing my expectations.
While this is no STP it's still really good music, and I'm always looking for cool rock music I haven't discovered because these days the newer "rock" bands are just god awful. So this album was very refreshing to hear. If you like STP tunes like Glide, Pruno, Sour Girl, Ride the Cliche, Still Remains, 7 Caged Tigers, Lady Picture Show, Adhesive etc. you will probably enjoy Talk Show more than the fans who like Down, Piece of Pie, Dumb Love, No Way Out, Coma, Trippin on a Hole, Silvergun Superman, Sex Type Thing, etc. Of course if you like em all like me, then it's easy to enjoy this CD as well. The singer does resemble Scott Weiland quite a bit. So at times it does sound like another STP album. I'd describe his voice as a cross between Scott Weiland and a much less annoying Josh Todd. I also hear some Liam Gallager in his voice, and Oasis is one of my guilty pleasure bands so I enjoy Dave Coutts voice thoroughly. The songs are melodic and catchy, which is what I've come to expect from the Deleo duo. These guys just flat out know how to make awesome rock music whether it's pretty, euphoric ballady type songs to full out grunge metal (though there isn't much of that on this record), and it always sounds good. If your an STP fan or just a fan of rock music in general I'd highly recommend this CD. Also check out Army of Anyone with Richard Patrick of Filter. Unfortunately for the Deleo's, they can't seem to find much success with other singers besides Scotty W. which is maybe for the best, but that doesn't mean the music, or the alternate singers are to blame.

I like it. Dean and Robert Deleo can always write good music no matter if its this guy singing, Scot Weiland, or Robert Patrick.

Talk Show has produced quite an excellent album. The songwriting is well thought out... the performances are tight and professional. The thing that really caught my ear was Dean De Leo's chord voicings... very interesting stuff... ear candy... and not to diminish anyone elses role in on the cd... they all were great. Now...Dave Coutts... is just hands down talented. He can go from raspy rocker... to singing quite like Freddy Mercury... very clean and on pitch through his whole vocal range. The songwriting overall shows a lot of different influences to me... Zeppelin, Beatles... and a bit of King Crimson's first album was a nice touch... as well as chord progressions which reminded me of the Jellyfish. So, with all this great stuff happening on the CD... there seems to be some issues with the mix. Maybe it's just my CD... but the mix in a number of areas is distorted and sounds like it's clipping. Regardless of the mix in a few areas, this albums is really well done... and I really dig listening to it...
