Anyone who reads this book will recall times in their lives when they have stepped outside their comfort zone and experienced those rare moments of serendipity. We all wish we had the courage to risk these moments more frequently. This book provides you the tools and encouragement to make that a reality. A truly excellent book.

Having been a dedicated networker my entire career, it was with great anticipation that I read David Topus' book, Talk to Strangers. As with all skills one chooses to master, breaking the process down, step by step, is critical to understanding the subject and attaining mastery. I've read a number of books on networking and they fulfilled the promise of explaining an elusive skill in detail but a lot of the material was pretty dry with personal stories related mostly from the authors' experience.

The major difference between reading "Talk to Strangers" versus other books on the topic is that "Talk to Strangers" is really fun to read. The material is very well presented. The topics flowed in a very logical manner, each concept building on the next. The "Chapter at a Glance" summaries at the end of each chapter helped to solidify the salient points of the chapter and give the reader ideas to reflect on.

All that is well and good, but what I positively loved about the book, which really engaged me, were the personal stories that were not about the author. The personal stories that could be me, riding the bus or pumping gas, and in the process meeting someone who will be instrumental in some important aspect of my life.

With our preoccupation with our cell phones, laptops or tablets, I think we have forgotten, or maybe never learned, how to connect with others in a friendly and open manner. "Talk to Strangers" will get you up to speed on some important communication and interpersonal skills like mirroring and active listening, among others.

If you want to get out of your comfort zone and expand your opportunities, "Talk to Strangers" is a great roadmap.

I sat down at a random seat in a random sushi bar in San Diego. I'd just finished speaking at an association meeting. Just another meal on the road . . . alone. The guy sitting next to me was obviously in the same situation - alone. We started talking. He was the event coordinator for another trade association and two weeks later he hired me to speak at his next meeting. I've spoken at his events many times since.

Talk to Strangers is a brilliant reminder that random encounters can be highly profitable if you are open to them and understand how to capitalize on them. The author, David Topus, does a very nice job of teaching you how to make more of these encounters happen and how to make the most of them when they do.

Well written, fun to read, five stars.

Talk to strangers is a simple straightforward and relevant read for pretty much everyone on the planet who finds themselves in the position of interacting face to face with actual human beings. People skills seem like a lost art in today's socially networked Internet society. David's book was a timely reminder(for me at least)of just how important everyday random encounters can be on both a professional and personal level. I really liked the four or five "Chapter at a Glance" bullets at the end of each chapter as well as the specific how to examples. This is a great refresher for those of us who think we already know how to talk to strangers and a must read those who want to take the plunge but need some coaching.

Whether you want a new job, a new client, or just to expand your horizons, "Talk to Strangers" is the book for you. It manages to be both practical and strategic at the same time. Every day represents a new opportunity and this book helps you claim yours. Thank you David for writing such a helpful book. Having read it, I now realize how many lost opportunities I encounter on a daily basis. This book is both humorous and insightful. Really a good read. I recommend it to everyone.

David Topus' book, Talk to Strangers, is so enjoyable! He gives his readers the tools necessary to succeed at talking to strangers and it has made me more aware of when opportunities are in front of me. There have been several times I have approached a stranger because I was thinking of his book. And now I feel as though I have permission to talk to strangers.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone, whether you're a business professional that travels, a homemaker, or college student because of the universal idea that everyone we meet has value. Truly a great read!

Thank you David Topus

David is an expert sales trainer and marketing communicator who is relied upon by top global organizations for his ability to inspire salespeople to increase their effectiveness from lead generation to closing the big sale. Anyone who has the opportunity to learn from David, whether in a keynote, sales training or in this book, is sure to be a better sales professional from the experience. In this book, David offers stories of inspiration and practical techniques that the reader can use to instantly begin to transform their ability to generate the all important new business lead. By following David's clear suggestions, you are guaranteed to unlock hidden business opportunities and even potential new friendships that are often at times literally just right in front of you. I like this book because it provides value for both those newer to sales and the seasoned pro, by identifying the tremendous value of everyday encounters the often go untapped. By expressing your authentic human curiosity and asking some simple questions to people you meet on your daily path through life, you too can tap into an entire new stream of contacts that can change your life. I always say "you never know, until you ask" when coaching salespeople on the sales process. David takes it one step further and suggests you approach each new person you meet in non-business and business settings with the same openness and enthusiasm that they might be a conduit to a new opportunity. Follow David's suggestions and watch your world of opportunities grow.
