A wonderful resource for the serious Bible student,
By A Customer
This review is from: Talk Thru the Bible (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful resource for any serious student of the Bible. Use it right along with your Bible to help you better understand the who, what, when, where of each book of the Bible and how it fits together as a whole. I find it very easy to follow and would highly recommend it for any Christian's library. Now I am even more excited than ever to dig deep into the treasures of God's word!

This is a great survey book.,

This review is from: Talk Thru the Bible (Hardcover)
If you are looking for an easy to understand survey book, then this is what you want. Talk Thru the Bible does a good job explaining the historical background, date, theological contributions, and authorship of each book by highlighting the big ideas presented. It is written from a conservative evangelical perspective in a conversational mood and is devoid of heavy theological language. Besides what you'd expect to find in a survey book, Talk Thru the Bible also offers explanations of Hebrew poetry which you can understand, nifty charts, and outlines detailed enough that you could develop sermons from them. All the articles are short and easy to digest--which is perfect for the micro wave attention spans (short) we all seem to have these days. This would be my choice of a textbook if I were to teach Old or New Testament survey.

I am a pastor and like this book as a good introduction to each book of the bible. Our church has given this book in the past to those who have made profession of faith. It is a good tool for studying the Bible.

Great Historical and Interpretive Overview of Bible,

This review is from: Talk Thru the Bible (Hardcover)
This is a great, scholarly overview of each book of the Bible. The authors tried to only present good observations and stay away from interpretations of the text. I highly recommend this series for any serious student of the text who wants the text to say what it says!

Talk Thru the Bible is a easy to read, concise introduction to the Bible, book by book. It is a great companion book for Bible study - especially for those who have not had a great deal of biblical training.

I've been blessed to have used different study Bibles over the years (NIV, ESV, & MacArthur), and this resource is still my "go-to" whenever I START studying/reading through a book of the Bible. It is not meant to be a verse-by-verse commentary, but it does a great job surveying the Bible & helping set the stage for EACH book of the Bible. The treatise for each book includes this really cool chart summarizing concisely: Focus, Divisions, Topics, Places, Time. For example, the Genesis entry breaks the book down in this way...
FOCUS: Four Events (1:1 to 11:9) & Four People (11:10-50:26) The FOUR EVENTS are subdivided into (Creation, Fall, Flood, Nations) while FOUR PEOPLE are subdivided into (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph). Each book has explains how Christ is presented in it & how the book contributes to the Bible as a whole. Overall, I find Talk Thru to be clear, concise, balanced, & down-to-earth. I have given this as gifts to friends & pastors. The bottom line is: It helps me learn, understand, & appreciate the Lord & His Word.

Already have a study bible?,

This review is from: Talk Thru the Bible (Hardcover)
If you already have a "Study" bible - meaning you have an introduction to each book that talks about when written, who wrote it, the theme, an outline, etc.... then you DO NOT NEED THIS BOOK. It adds very little/nothing to what you have in a standard, e.g. NIV study bible.
