5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful follow-up to the author's first marketing book entitled Promote Your Business!, April 14, 2007
This review is from: Talk Up Your Business: How to Make the Most of Opportunities to Promote and Grow Your Small Business (Paperback)
I liked this book a lot! I probably would not have liked it as much as I do if I hadn't become a fan of the author after finding her first book at the local public library. Both books when read together cover the full range of marketing techniques a small law office or similar consulting business should consider when promoting itself. Both books are simple, but every word used is hand picked and worth its weight in gold.

I don't know whether I would have appreciated how wonderful these two books are when I graduated from law school the first time in 1988, but I wish they had existed and I had read them back then. They might have saved me a lot of grief trying to figure out how to market my services.

The instant book includes nine chapters as follows:

1. Planning

2. What do you do?

3. Word of mouth and referrals

4. Networking

5. Telemarketing

6. Public Speaking

7. Running Seminars

8. More ways to talk up your business

9. Grow your business from within

Chapter 9 will be especially helpful to anyone who doesn't have a lot of experience self promoting themselves and/or running a services organization. I recommend it be read first before the other eight chapters. I didn't get much from Chapter 8 and I would have liked the book better if Chapter 5 had been omitted. I'm not a believer in telesales. I think it is more of a hindrance than a benefit to a marketing program. Nobody likes doing it and not many people like getting nailed by it. 5 stars!
