2.0 out of 5 stars It's About Lying to Lower Your Interest Rate
This book tells you to Lie to your Creditors to get lower interest rates by telling them that you have a lower-interest rate offer with another bank. This book is out of date with the current times. Banks are not sending credit offers to anyone right now because everyone is over extended and maxed out on their credit cards. Even if I was comfortable enough to call and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Details taking charge of your credit card debt, June 30, 2003
This review is from: Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt!: Phone Calls to Banks That Saved More Than $43,000 in Interest Charges and Fees (Paperback)
"Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt" provides solid advice on getting your rate reduced, annual fees waived, removing a late payment fee, handling disputes, and many other common problems when dealing with credit card companies. More than just advice, it is a collection of detailed examples of phone calls including complete transcripts. Each transcript demonstrates how the author handled a particular issue and the results of the call. Not content to just give one example of getting an interest rate lowered or removing over limit fees, each type of problem has several transcripts so you can get a good feel for what to expect and how to handle it. Most people are not aware of how much power they have when dealing with a credit card company and how to get things changed. This book walks the reader through the process from beginning to end and is a recommended read for anyone looking to gain control of his or her credit card situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable book from day one, May 14, 2004

I was shopping for a book that would help me with the credit card debt I have accumulated. I chose this book. It has proven to be very bemeficial to me. It contains a large amount of information your banks don't want you to know. My first night of reading the book, I got up to about page 70 and made my first phone call, with the intent of gaining information about the account and possibly getting a fee reversed. I ended up getting a $50 credit to the account, relatively easily. I cannot praise this book enough! If you need to reduce your credit card debt, this book may very well be your solution.

I had the same problem most of you reading this have. But after reading this book from cover to cover, I was awashed with a new vigor and confidence to launch a strategic war of words with the credit card telephone handlers. As you read thru the transcripts of the author's actual calls, picture yourself talking on the phone with the same savvy as he. Then close the book, put up your over charged, over penalized, and over interest rated bill and MAKE CALLS! Show them that you are taking CONTROL of your finances and relish the experience of sticking up for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars A helpful beginning, August 31, 2007
This review is from: Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt!: Phone Calls to Banks That Saved More Than $43,000 in Interest Charges and Fees (Paperback)
I bought this and then returned it. While I think it would be helpful for many people, it was not as focused (in my opinion) for people over their heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved money on mistake bank made in their own favor., April 14, 2003
This review is from: Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt!: Phone Calls to Banks That Saved More Than $43,000 in Interest Charges and Fees (Paperback)
I don't know why a book like this has been written sooner. It contains so much common sense advice, I can't believe I didn't think of these things myself sooner. Thanks to Bilker's book I was able to take detailed notes, including names on promised rates for my IRA. When the promised rates didn't appear on my next statement, I was able to talk my way through many layers of resistance and finally get the original deal I was promised. I highly recommend this book to anyone with debt or who deals with any financial institutions for any reason.

This book is amazing. Reading it has opened our eyes to how much money we have been allowing to slip through our fingers unnecessarily. All my husband and I did before reading this book was complain about the outrageously high cost of borrowing money on credit cards. Since reading Bilker's detailed how-to-book, we have actually been able to call banks and save money. We couldn't be more grateful!

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Have A Credit Card You Need This Book, March 16, 2003

The majority of people that have credit cards have had to deal with the credit card banks at one time or the other. When you deal with these banks you get the feeling that there is nothing anybody can do about anything.

While reading "Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt" I started to realize where I was making my mistakes dealing with the banks. I've never seen a more detailed How-To Guide.

Who would have ever thought about a training manual for the rest of us to use when trying to get a problem solved concerning our credit cards.? Well, the answer to that is Scott Bilker and I'm certainly glad that he did. By his own admission it took him years to compile this information.

As you start reading Scott's book you will discover ways to start reducing your debt immediately. He even tells you what to say when you are trying to settle with a credit card bank at less than the full balance. How many of us would know what to say?

Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt is the one book that every credit card holder should have. There's no reason for us to pay the high interest and late fees these banks charge. Now, with Scott's book, we don't have to.

I don't know about you but I'm going to be on the phone to my credit card banks on a regular basis thanks to Scott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real advice that works!, August 11, 2005
This review is from: Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt!: Phone Calls to Banks That Saved More Than $43,000 in Interest Charges and Fees (Paperback)
I am in the same field as Scott, and have recommended his book countless times to consumers. With credit card companies raising rates, fees, etc. his advice could not be more timely.

I just interviewed Scott today (8/11/05) on my EverydayWealth Radio program on [...] and he told me how he just got a 10 month old late fee waived! That's practically unheard of.

I can't recommend Scott's book highly enough. You'll easily recoup many times the price of the book if you implement his suggestions.

This book is simply amazing! I had previously used some of the techniques Scott teaches, but other things he tells you to do blew my mind! The things Scott talks about are easy to do AND can save you a TON of money! I would highly recommend the book to anyone with ANY amount of credit card debt, or even if you have NO credit card debt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for debt problems!, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Talk Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt!: Phone Calls to Banks That Saved More Than $43,000 in Interest Charges and Fees (Paperback)
Scott writes in a straightforward, common sense style that includes many good tips and advice on how to regain control over out-of-control credit card debt. The best thing he always points out is be willing, in fact, enthused about talking to your credit card people. They are there to help. They are there to help YOU find a way to reign things in and get it back to a manageable amount. Don't be afraid. Be open, ask questions, show your willingness to admit the problem exists and that you are honest, hardworking, and ready to make a good effort to get any problems taken care of as soon as you can. You can get a lot of interest reduced, and some fees waived if you are willing to talk about your problem and show good faith toward resolving it.
