Book Description

November 30, 2005
This is the moving story of a young girl battling leukemia who realizes she is going to die. She receives hope and comfort through nightly conversations with her favourite doll, Angel, who helps her to embrace a new perspective on dying, and the possibility that consciousness could survive after death. Her fear of death is ultimately lifted by her new-found spiritual wisdom and by the account of a near-death experience told to her by a young companion. Evelyn Elsaesser-Valarino's extensive knowledge of near-death experiences informs this astonishing book. It will be of great benefit and comfort to those facing their own death, or for parents and carers of those with serious illnesses. It will also enrich anyone who is reflecting on this essential aspect of life.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"'A genuine resource - not simply for all children and parents wanting information about death and dying, but as one of the few books in the world one can put into the hands of a child who is facing a life-threatening illness.' - Dr Allan Kellehear, Professor of Palliative Care, La Trobe University, Melbourne"

I loved this book and it was a very quick read. In fact, I couldn't put it down. I'm not sure if it's suitable for young children who are ill, only because I'm not sure how much they would comprehend. As an adult, it was fascinating. I've read quite a few books on NDE studies, testimonials and the afterlife. This book was written from a different perspective, obviously, and may offer comfort to any young adult facing a terminal illness.

A must-read for people of all ages - for those who are in 'the pit of despair', for those who are seeking to make some sense of the world, but most especially for those parents/care-givers with sick children, sick spouses or elderly loved ones, - in fact, for any person undergoing any form of suffering in any way.

1.0 out of 5 stars ps... the better NDE book for children who are dying is..., May 26, 2006

The Door to the Secret City (The Adventures of Freddie, No. 1) by Kathleen J. Forti, James Brisson (Illustrator), Dutton Childrens Books (October 1984), ISBN: 0913299103

Oops, I forgot to add my recommendation for a better alternative book for kids facing life-limiting and life-threatening illness, as well as for their siblings and friends. This story completely transcends it's publication date (1984) making it a timeless NDE children's classic. :o) My sons enjoyed listening to the tape version of this book until they were pre-teens when they began reading adult NDE narratives. If the tape is not availlable at Amazon, check for it at www.IANDS.org.
