5.0 out of 5 stars It is a touching story told beautifully about a friend., July 21, 1999
This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
Talking to angels contains a subject few authors will write about. Esther, brought close to this subject through her sister has done an extremely artistic job at describing a mysterious illness. The illustrations are so vivid and bring to life the story. I recommend this book for ANY child.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much emotion! A book straight from a sister's heart., January 29, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
"Talking to Angels" has so much emotion packed into its thirteen pages, I cry just thinking about it! Esther Watson clearly has an extremely close and caring relationship with her sister. She describes Christa as a person first, only using the label "autistic" at the end of the story. Seemingly written for children, with one or two sentences on each page in large letter format and big illustrations, anyone touched by Autism is bound to be touched by this book. I highly recommend adding this book to your collection - that is, if you can handle a few tears

5.0 out of 5 stars Required-Reading., June 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
Esther's book should be required-reading for all young children, their parents and teachers. She warmly speaks about the relationship with her sister, in a way that can only help people understand and empathize. Not to mention her illustrations are profoundly touching. I am buying everyone I know with young children this book. Change that- everyone I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book!, May 29, 2000

This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
Finally, I have come across a book that helps children understand other children who have autism. I love this book because my friend has a daughter with autism and they read it together. Also, they love the pictures and the witty way it was written. I think this book helps children to understand other children who have difficulties like autism and shows that even children with problems like autism are fun people too! I recommend this book to anyone with children. My daughter begged me to buy this book after she saw the funny pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars For to understand actions, but not always the meaning of them and except them, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
My mother read this book over the phone to me. Though I have never seen the Pictures I think it is a touching and accurate depiction for at least one type of autisim. It touches me through every sentence. This book describes actions and mannerisims not realy understood in an excepting and loving manner. For those who have an Autistic child like this one and my own it will in my opinion be a geat book to read to their other siblings and cousins durring their upbringing to give them a start in their understanding of their autistic sibling/cousin. I very much intend to read it to my own children, nieces, and nephews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angelic Bond, March 20, 2005
This review is from: Talking to Angels (Library Binding)
I absolutely love this book. I love the way the narrating sister describes how she interacts with her sister who has autism. She reflects on the responses she gets and describes autism in a natural, gentle and very loving way.

Make this book among your first choices if you are looking for excellent books about autism for children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heroine to Root-a-Toot-Toot Fer! YeHaw!, December 7, 1999

This book is amazing! I bought this book for my grandchildren because it reminded me of my childhood in Texas. Jules is right as rain and Gertie is downright adorable! It is a pleasure to read this one out loud. You will develop a drawl from the infectious voice that Esther Pearl naturally evokes in her writing. I do hope that Jules and Gertie have more adventures in the future.
