5.0 out of 5 stars "Life after death", February 29, 2004

This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
For years I have dabbled back and forth as to whether thier is "Life after death" or if we die and are held "sleeping" till the day comes for us all to wake as it states in the bible.
Then my daughter passed away unexpectedly and I searched for answers to this mystery in my mind. I wanted so badly for her to be out there...for me to talk to,to know she was alright and unafraid. TALKING TO HEAVEN has helped me to heal a little of the questions as well as make me feel more comfortable about my daughters demise. I doubt I will ever stop missing this precious child of mine,a woman...but at least I feel that when i softly speak to her, she listens.
This book will help anyone with questions, grief or turmoil they are unsure about in thier lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comforting and Healing, April 9, 2000
This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
I am very aware that many people will believe this message and many will not. I want to take this review to a place that makes sense for most people. It doesn't matter if you believe James Van Praagh is talking to people in Heaven or not. To me, his take on Spiritual themes are very accurate. For me, a good guide to quality spiritual books is to look for those who promote love and not fear. If a book is filled with fear, this is not one that will promote peace and truth. I find his message filled with unconditioned awareness that is the essence of soul. In Mr. Praagh's words, I hear a strong sense of humble gratitude for his gift and not arrogance that would lead me to think he is false. I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for a sense of meaning and hope beyond this life. This book is not written to be a practical caregiving book. This book relates more to the spiritual side of people searching for comfort and healing. -- Samuel Oliver, author of, WHAT THE DYING TEACH US: LESSONS ON LIVING.

3.0 out of 5 stars Many interesting and unique ideas about life after death, January 3, 2000
This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
The jacket on this best-seller reads: "...a book that will forever change the way you look at death-and life." Not a believer in the occult or mediums, I must confess Author Van Praagh changed my views. A medium is described as a sort of middleman able to interpret thoughts, feelings and sights from spiritual to physical life, according to Van Praagh.

Author Van Praagh presents many interesting, unique ideas about life after death along with a do-it-yourself program for communicating with the spirit world. Discussions about this shadowy area of life never seem completely satisfying because there is no hard evidence those who have gone before exist in spirit form. The idea that print (and broadcast) dignify any subject, comes into play here. One cannot help but be reminded th:tt anybody can publish anything, particularly something we would all like to believe. On the other hand, what Mr. Van Praagh has to say is intriguingly plausible never forgetting he did a stint as a writer for Paramount.

Is there life after death? Yes. We possess a spiritual body identical to our physical body which, during the transition of death, is released from our physical body. This spiritual body is disease-free, eternal, and can move from one person to another through thought. Here on earth, we live in a three-dimensional world of energy which moves slowly. Spirits, on the other hand, are made up of molecules traveling at a much higher rate of speed, therefore freer, less dense and able to move anywhere through thought. A medium (Mr. Van Praagh) is able to go between the physical and spiritual worlds, pick up the faster vibrations of spirits, and interpret messages from them to this wor1d.

Several chapters relate three-way conversations by the author with his client, and the individual spirit contacted. The stories illustrate various typical problems brought about by the passing of a loved one ranging from a violent accident, drowning, murder, AIDS, to suicide and death by capital punish-ment. Particularly interesting are his thoughts about suicide and capital punishment.

Suicide, does not solve individual problems (they continue to exist in spirit). Capital punishment; it is wrong to take the life of another. Capital punish-ment continues the propagation of violence.

Loss; we all experience loss of many things in our fives but must use this experience to make ourselves healthier and to lead a more full life. This discussion is followed with a listing six steps one can take to overcome a sense of loss and move forward to a more satisfying, rewarding existence.

The concluding chapter delves into the area of making contact with the spirit world along with the thoughts and disciplines necessary to accomplish this feat. The author emphasizes that it is not a game; it takes enormous discipline, time and patience along with a sincere, deep desire to develop an ability as a spiritual go-between. Critical is meditation, described as a focus of consciousness from one state of being to another, or turning off the outside world to become more aware of our inside world. in meditation, we utilize cosmic energies that illuminate and energize the various well-defined spirit centers of the body.

There may be something in what James Van Praagh has to say.

Are you very intuitive? Do you have a sense of inner guidance propelling you to the wiser decisions you make in facing the challenges in your life? Then this book may be for you. In "Talking to Heaven", James Van Praagh says, "This is not a game. It is not my intention to teach you some tricks so you can amuse others with your psychic abilities. The development of your intuition must be taken seriously and with respect". He shares at length understanding the physical and spiritual laws that enhance ones connection to God and to spirit guides. He uses his special gift, as a medium. to bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds to help others. His book is filled with true stories of comfort for those who have lost loved ones, and of bringing back powerful messages from the other side. Whether you believe what he says or not, his message will give most people peace of mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Van Praagh's "Talking to Heaven" --- a guidebook, October 20, 2000

This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
"Talking to Heaven" came to my attention, as part of my spiritual journey led me to information that explained the things that continued to happen around me, as my son Jason and I began a new way of "being" together after his transition to Heaven. Many things happened and I was always led right to the source of information that I needed, at just the right time, by following what "others" around me suggested...following only the things that resonated in my heart. I find James Van Praagh to be sincere, and humble in a very likable way,and his manner of sharing his gift of healing resonates in my heart, assuring me that he is truly genuine and I appreciate the information he shares. I believe he speaks the truth when he mentions an "inner knowingness" as the way to access this information, and all of the things happened before I read this book, and I assure you that we are definitely connected to our loved ones always, in "all ways" and gifts of love are the blessings we receive from our loved ones when we realize that being "aware" in a new way and trusting our feelings is all we have to do...just believe!

5.0 out of 5 stars A believer, January 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all of James Van Praagh's books as well as books written by others on the same subject. I am sorry for the person who gave such a poor review. Obviously that person has never had a spiritual experience and probably won't with the attitude, anger, and closed mind they presented in the review. I have also seen James on T.V. several times. He doesn't project much confidence, but that doesn't mean he isn't for real. Whether he is or isn't, it is still a fact that spirits of people and animals are around us and do try to contact us just like he says. I know this because my husband and I have been hearing our dog for three years now since she passed on to the other side. We hear her paws hit the floor from jumping down off the bed like she did for 15 years when she was alive. We are not crazy or imagining it. There is no doubt it is her and she wants us to know she is there. I have also felt her energy go through my body. There is no feeling like that one, for sure. I know that James knows what I am talking about. I also know that God makes this possible. We are not supposed to know everything there is about the spirit world while we are here on Earth. These experiences have made a true believer of me, and I thank God everyday for people like James who help us with our sorrows. Keep up the good work, James. Don't let unfortunate people discourage you. You are a messenger of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talking to Heaven Review, February 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
I just bought Talking to Heaven and a book by a healer/psychic I hadn't heard of until I got her new book, Psychic Gifts, and after reading both, I loved Psychic Gifts and thought Talking to Heaven was just okay. I am giving James 5 stars cause he's a great medium but if you want to read a book you cannot put down, get Psychic Gifts by Tiffany Snow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comforting the inner soul, January 31, 2001
By
Tina M Gassert (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
I have read James van Praaghs book Talking to Heaven. It is so comforting to read about someone who has passed over and know that they are with you always. When my mother passed away it was needless to say devasting and I felt such an emptiness and excrutiating pain inside myself. It caused me to question my life. What is it all about? Whats the point? Why am I here? The people we love the most leave us. I felt stranded. When I read the book so many questions were answered for me without me asking. It was so releiving! I now have a peace within and more of an open mind. I am not afraid to die anymore, because we really don't die we just change form and continue to learn. The greatest feeling is knowing we can still connect with our loved one. Life as we know it is not a dead end! Life does continue. We can learn so much if we stay open and listen to what their trying to convey to us. I have had too many experiences now with life beyond to know that what James writes is true. I look forward in meeting him one day soon. I have the upmost respect for him and only wish I could help people the way he has. That has been a hearts desire for me for years. Thank you for easing my pain James. I have such a humbled overwelming confidence now. Tina Marie Gassert

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone of us has the Power of James Van Praagh, June 5, 2001

"Talking to Heaven" has opened my eyes to my Spirit and my Guides,or Guardian Angles.Everything makes sense after reading James Van Praah's Book. The good days, when everything goes your way,and the bad one's, when someone's trying to block you from doing something.I really wanted to know about my dreams.James tells us thats the closes we come to our spirit. When we dream about a family member,or friend that has died ,Its for real. There's so many wonderfull stories of people finding out that there loved one's are still with us in our everyday lives. The one that really touched me was Charlie.James had no idea who the spirit was, untill he was shown pictures on a refrigerator, and described them to Susan, the deaf woman who was there to find out if her loved one was alright.Charlie was her Dog.I almost cried.I have two dogs, and I know they have a soul.I was so happy to read that part of the book.James also teaches us how we can have the same power that he has,but you have to work at it through Meditation and other exercises. The main part about this book is what we already know.Love is the only way, through God.We are all part of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bold and Encouraging, February 16, 2005
This review is from: Talking to Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death (Mass Market Paperback)
If you've lost a loved one, have psychic intuitive abilities that you are trying to figure out, if you are a fan of Jonathan Edwards or Tiffany Snow or Sylvia Browne, this book will be a pleasure. Understand what it is like to live the unique life, one where no path is there to follow, and the trail blazing is left up to you. We don't die! Just our body does! We should live each day without fear of death. And know that the ones we love are not truly gone. Just most of us can't see or hear them anymore. For those who can, they have to put up with a lot from society and religious sects. A true loving God would never disagree with communication with our loved ones who have passed. And these authors tell you that. I believe it.
