fabulous,

What a shame this is out of print. Monica Dickens (descendent of Charles Dickens, BTW) describes her life in horses in a way any horse lover can relate to. Horse care, trail riding, showing and dealing with "non-horsey" people are all relayed with humor and yet truth. Lovely pen and ink style illustrations too.

I purchased this book as a gift for my soon to be wife. The bookseller shipped very fast. The book arrived very quickly and in great shape!

Still a great read after all these years,

This review is from: Talking of Horses. (Hardcover)
I read this book every couple of years, usually in March when it looks like winter is finally going to leave and let spring come around again. Now that I'm feeling too old to go out and climb aboard the back of one of my own horses, I can start reading and be there in the moment with Monica. This book warms and speaks to the heart of any young (or not so young) person who loves horses, whether they are fortunate to own one or not. Thoughtful, encouraging, laughable, Dickens shares her own experience with horses, and makes you feel that if ever you were to meet her out riding someday, she and you would instantly become the best of friends. This book is delightful, and has brighten my life many a time. Sad to know that it's out of print. I shall cherish the copy I have, even more.
