This book gives a theoretical and visual framework for learning talking, listening, and conflict resolution skills. The concepts have been widely researched and the format is one of the most effective that I have found. The book contains exercises to help the reader apply the material. The section on communication styles makes it easy to identify negative patterns and gives alternatives for the reader to use. The book is widely used in communication skill training for couples and the concepts apply to coworkers as well!

My husband and I went through this book during our counseling sessions and can honestly say it was the best thing we've ever done for our marriage. So much of our conflict is the result of poor communication on a number of levels. This book, along with the guidance of a wise and loving counselor, gave us the tools we needed to establish a strong marriage from those early years on. Eleven years later, we still recommend it highly to all of our friends and colleagues.

I've been using this method with my wife and my patients for over ten years. It is an excellent tool for improving communication, and thereby, conflict resolution, emotional intimacy, and a host of other issues that couples face in the day to day business of living together for the long term. I highly recommend it.

This book was purchased years ago when my husband studied in Michigan, and he loaned it to someone and it was never returned, he was so glad to find it here at Amazon.com. This book is a great tool in the development of relationships it's a treasure.

This book, entitled: "Talking and Listening Together: Couple Communication One", is really for a classroom setting. It calls for the use of various other objects that are supposed to be used in conjunction with the technical lessons. The lessons are somewhat ethereal with unfamiliar jargon that should be memorized in order to understand exactly what the authors are trying to convey. Our marriage councilor recommended this book to me and my future bride to be. But it proved too lofty for me, and my girlfriend and I made it about half way through the book when all H___ broke loose. This book needs to spend time on "the do's and don'ts of arguing" because once the communication starts, look out. I didn't know that she could swear like that. It's my intention to finish the book with her because guys, it's not so much that you learn to communicate, but rather, it's your willingness to listen and spend time with them that gives their hearts a boost. I know it's a pain, but if you're fortunate enough to get a good one like I have, they're worth it. Other then that, this book isn't worth a hoot.

I participated in this workshop 25 years ago.It didn't help the relationship, but I learned alot about listening and myself.

Do this book as a couple. Learn by practicing the skills that are presented here. You will not regret the personal growth found in practicing these skills nor will you regret the investment in this workbook.

An excellent book, an excellent process.

Kinda cheesy but good concepts and a great jumpstart of discussions between a couple in order to learn good communication skills and ways to prevent and lessen the intensity of arguments.
