Talking Peace: A Vision for the Next Generation is an easy reading, informative book. Jimmy Carter is able to present his ideas and many facts in a concise and understandable way. My knowledge of world events and the workings of the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, was greatly enhanced by this book. I now know that the Carter Center is one of the world's leading mediator's between warring countries. If you have a desire to increase your knowledge of the actions nations, especially the United States, are taking to preserve the peace and biodiversity of the planet, and you want to understand some of the conflicts and struggles other countries are undergoing then read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative yet enjoyable, February 28, 2000

This review is from: Talking Peace: A Vision for the Next Generation: Revised Edition (Paperback)
Jimmy Carter's Talking Peace is an exceptionally informative yet quite enjoyable book. The ex-Presidents views and insights into the world as we know it offer a glimpse of true love and compassion for all humanity. The numerous programs that are undertaken by the Carter Foundation provide many underprivileged individuals and families with a reality which is a little friendlier. Habitat for Humanity, for instance, is a great undertaking which provides homeless or poverty stricken people with a place to stay at little or no cost. President Carter is an extremely knowledgeable man whose knowledge equals, if not surpasses, many of the world's recognizable brilliant minds. The experiences he has gathered throughout his life, including both his upbringing and his presidency, allow him to discuss the implications of numerous things, many of which ordinary people do not consider. Overall Talking Peace is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to better themselves by reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talking Peace, July 17, 2003
This book is an awesome book because it not only mentions the various conflicts around the world that Americans are unaware of, but it goes into depth about struggles and the interventions by Jimmy Carter to solve these conflicts. This book is an eye-opener to the numerous freedoms and priveleges we often take for granted and that others strive for. Jimmy Carter discusses the attempts of organizations such as the Carter Center and the UNICEF to establish peace and suitable living conditions around the world. Jimmy Carter does not neglect the potential of young Americans and encourages them to do what they can do to make the world a better place for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Misunderstood Former President's Masterpiece of Hope, February 28, 2000
This review is from: Talking Peace: A Vision for the Next Generation: Revised Edition (Paperback)
Jimmy Carter's words allowed me to see the world from another angle. Too often I become trapped in the comforts of this country and I neglect to think about the millions of people who are suffering around the world. In the United States, we concern ourselves over minimal things, such as a surplus of taxes, while citizens of third world countries are wondering if there will be food today. Reading Talking Peace was a wake-up call for me. The mediation skills I learned from the unselfish Jimmy Carter will be useful in my future days of politics. Although mediation is not the major theme of the book, I gained knowledge from former President Carter's skill of being impartial in order to resolve conflicts with various countries of the world. I will remember former President Carter's words when I am in the Oval Office one day. Hopefully great changes will occur thanks to the concepts shared in this book.

Jimmy Carter's book Talking Peace is phenomenal! He has given so much to our world through the Carter Center. Through his partnership with Habitat for Humanity, many homes have been built, free of cost, for underprivileged families. The way the Carter Center works with other organizations around the world to bring to light the indignities that our neighbors within the global community suffer touches the heart. Everyone has basic human rights and when those are violated we must all join together to stop the problem and bring about change. Through Talking Peace, Mr. Carter expresses his compassion and genuine love for the human soul. It is an excellent book!
