Finding the time to interview the last living speaker of the ancient Chinook language won't be easy for history professor Teodora Morelli. Teddy's hectic schedule includes teaching, researching and cheering on her brawny sister Tabor's career as a professional wrestler. dropping Tabor home after a match, Teddy goes inside to meet her sister's new roommate, a children's author -- only to find the woman's gruesomely slashed body on the kitchen floor.

As the police investigation drags, Teddy and Tabor uncover a couple of leads of their own, including the victim's wildly evasive sister. Demanding an artifact from her childhood, the persuasive surviving sibling promises to tell Teddy and Tabor all she knows about her sister's demise if they help her with an impossible quest: removing a legendary treasure from the bottom of an isolated inlet. It's up to Teddy to dive into the chaos -- hoping that the mysteries of the past will solve those of the present.
