Easy to understand, yet world-class,
This review is from: Talking Sheepdogs (Hardcover)
Derek Scrimgeour is a world-class sheepdog trainer; he has run dogs in the English National, the International, and the World trial, puts on training clinics all over Europe and the United States, and runs a training center in England. His book reflects his experience in its breadth and quality; with a little luck, some sheep, and a good dog, you could take a dog from pup to trial-worthy with only this book. Yet it is also easy to understand. All the terms are simply explained, the training is laid out in simple steps, and tips are made on trouble shooting problems. Beyond that, Scrimgeour's methods are among the gentlest in the Border Collie world, rarely using any punishment other than a 'hard voice'. A must buy for any working Border Collie aficionado, whether complete beginner or established expert.

This review is from: Talking Sheepdogs: Training Your Working Border Collie (Paperback)
This book is very focused on sheep herding and is correctly named. Although we do not herd sheep, I found helpful ideas to consider which will help me shape a better training program for a Border Collie I am asking to learn many different jobs. The culture difference of the author compared to me (in USA) although interesting creates another level of challenge.

Did Anyone Bother to Edit this Book??,

This review is from: Talking Sheepdogs: Training Your Working Border Collie (Paperback)
I think this would be a great book for anyone interested in training sheepdogs, but the editing is extremely messed up. Trying to read it is often like trying to decipher cryptic messages. It's too bad, as it has a lot of good information to offer.

Poorly edited, assumes a bit much,

Really poorly edited book. Broken sentences, missing words; really bad.
The book assumes a bit of knowledge on the subject and is clearly intended from somebody who has working animals in a farm/ranch setting.

'Received a brand new book in good shipping time.
A great, straight forward, informative book which encompasses the author's ease in relating his knowledge of working border collies to those who wish to learn. |
