I loved this book of poems. McCarriston is a spit fire of a woman with incredible resiliency, whose poems reflect a life that either speaks of ours or someone we know. Love and lust, mix with horror and sadness, but I as a reader was left with a feeling of love and hope and optimism.

Format: Hardcover
There are the seeds of her later, more obviously personal-as-political work in poems here such as "Birthday Girl, 1950," "Eve," and "Trouble." There's also a sadness of memory and a passionate love of the world-as-it-is with its "pitiable beauty" ("A Day Like Keats' "Autumn," 55), its children, its barn fires, and, of course, its horses. Don't miss her second book _Eva-Mary_. Linda teaches at University of Alaska Anchorage, where I had the privilege to be one of her students, & still have the privilege to be her friend.
