Editorial Reviews

This colorful Cajun folktale, set deep in the bayous of Louisiana, tells the story of Blanchette, a young girl who befriends a mysterious old woman. She is ultimately rewarded for her kindness with several magical eggs in this classical tale of good versus evil. Illustrated by Neil Brennan. Ages 5 and up.

I thought this video went along with the The Talking Eggs story by Robert San Souci. However, the DVD version of this Creole folktale has quite a few subtle changes from the book. Personally, I like the book best although Sissy Spacek is an excellent narrator. One teaching idea is to read the book (I read the book to third graders) and later show the video and ask students to compare/contrast the two versions.
