Good Stuff, But..., May 28, 2007
This review is from: Talking on Tour : The Best Anecdotes from Golf's Master Storyteller (Paperback)
"Talking on Tour" is an anthology of the "And then Jack Said to Arnie" seies, seven or eight smaller books in all.
Good stuff, interesting stuff, some humorous, some touching, all quick read snatches and glimpses into the game of golf and its greatest names.
But, having said that, this anthology was in bad need of an editor, not so much to edit out sketches, but to edit the sketches and stories when the books were combined into one.
For example, there might be six or eight vignettes on a particular golfer. Rather identify the golfer as "winner of the 1946 U.S. Open" in the first vignette and let that description or identification be enough for all of the stories about this particular golfer, the golfer is identified as "winner of the 1946 U.S. Open" in each of the six or eight stories about him...Rather than edit references within a sketch, the publisher just lifted stories verbatim out of the other books.
Distracting but not enough to keep you from enjoying the many good stories contained in this work...
(Guess we are now wating on "And then Zach said to TBD"....) Golf is always filled with so many good and timeless stories. This book is a compilation of most of them.
