Editorial Reviews

Like hymns and patriotic songs, union songs are songs with a message. Released in 1955, this record by Peter Seeger, the Almanac Singers, and the Song Swappers, is an enduring collection of working man's anthems that have been passed down through generations of laborers. Liner notes include an introduction by Pete Seeger and song explanations.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the greatest!, October 3, 2007

I had thiis record for 40 years as an LP. It is still the original and best album of labor songs. Get this one, not the one with the yellow background as it is different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeger and Guthrie and what they stood for, November 24, 2007
This review is from: Talking Union and Other Union Songs (Audio CD)
This was the first folk album I ever bought and lead me to Pete Seeger, Woody Gutherie, Huddie Ledbetter, blues and bluegrass.

Unions are currently looked down upon because the history of labor is not taught and is practically unknown. Thank them for your five day work week and eight hour work day. These are the songs sung to inspire the laborers and still inspire today.

Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited for, January 18, 2008

This is _the_ workers' songs album. My girlfriend (present wife) had the LP when we met 40 years ago. I lent it to a "comrade" without asking her. He left town without returning it. Ever since I've felt bad about that. I've looked for the album but never found it until now.
