Clare Shaw (Author)

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

Positive Parenting March 1995
Written by a speech-therapist, this practical guide to childhood communication considers how speech and language develop, from birth to age 11 and the role that parents can play in this development. It explains the physical process of speech and discusses factors affecting progress, with descriptions of appropriate games and activities for each developmental stage. The last chapter covers all aspects of speech therapy and remedial treatment.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The development of speech is an exciting phenomenon, carefully watched and charted by new parents. Shaw explains what to expect and when. Her discussion of speech difficulties and disabilities is not too extensive, but adequate. The link between speech development and other language skills, including reading, is pointed out, along with games and activities to help language skills evolve. A few toys that encourage talking are presented; however, the author includes books as a general category and offers no specific titles. Denise Perry Donavin
